Just one question.....and just one answer.

The answer is the name of a famous player.

The clues represent a convoluted path to the answer. But make a mistake and you will be led down a blind alley. Work out the clue and move to the next clue.

Think of the only two Englishmen to win both the World Cup and European Cup as players.
One shares a first name with a former England player who also became England manager.
This person shares that honour of being both England player and manager with a fellow former Barcelona manager.
That manager played for a club over 200 times in the '60s under a Scot who went on to manage another club his successor also managed - immediately succeeding that Scot at this club too.
The successor whilst at the second club signed this player from the former club in 1979 for a then club record fee.
This player played in Scotland in the late '80s alongside an England international goalkeeper and European Cup winner.
When the 'keeper won the European Cup this player captained the team
The captain won his first league title with this club a few years before the European Cup win.
That club won the title a second time shortly afterwards under this manager and former player
That manager had won the title himself as a player with another club years earlier
That club's current Player of the Year is the answer<diva>

Confused? Any takers?

The European Cup was a trophy teams qualified for winning by their respective league, the Champions League was concocted to allow the G14 teams to hoard as much of Western Europe's money until Chelsea, Man City, Atletico Madrid and the bottom falling out of Serie A and the Eredivisie got in the way.
