Ainsworth, Rowlands, Gallen - 3 Rangers legends from the wilderness years. I'll stand any of them a pint.
I'm beginning to wonder whether Flyer is another WUM, along with Yappy. Come to think of it, do they ever post at the same time?
Do you not know about his behaviour since he was dropped? Stating that he was only here to pick up a 6 figure bonus that he played no part in earning plus all the other stuff with the fans. He more of a Lee Camp than a Cook or Ainsworth.
I do remember him demanding a pay rise that was written into his contract, as I would under similar circumstances. How about you, or would you let it pass? I repeat, he always gave 100% and wore the shirt with pride. I'm sure it wasn't his choice not to be picked.
It wasnt a pay rise, it was a 1 off bonus and seeing as he took no part in the season, would you not feel a bit undeserving of it? Its his other behaviour that ranks him alongside Camp rather than Cook or Ainsworth. Arguing with fans during games Being a complete twat to fans at the POTY party Telling players not to clap the fans at the end of a game and dragging them off instead.
If it is in his contract his in entitled to it. That man gave him knees for this club. I know nothing of this, when were these events, and what led up to them?
This was after he was dropped from the starting line up. He had an argument with a fan during the game. He pulled the players off at FT who were clapping the fans because some fans were booing. As for POTY http://www.qprnet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10051 http://www.wearetherangersboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123674 Telling fans to **** off. That doesnt put him alongside true professionals like Ainsworth and Cook.
Absolute top bloke and having left the club I can reveal him to be one of the players I had the pleasure of spending some of the promotion night with. He spoke with genuine passion about the club and fans but felt sadly very let down by NW who treated him like ****. Gorgeous mrs too and I wish him well for the future!
If these are true it sounds like these events were all done at times of great disappointment to him. Clearly this would not make it ok, but how severe was the provocation? The contrast to ’74 experience is so stark I feel that there is more to this than is apparent. If I had a fan telling me to **** off and leave the club I’d given my all for I think that I would react badly. As ever we never get the full picture.
He was a professional right up to the time he was dropped, then his behaviour was not what it should have been, thats why I was happy to see him leave seeing as he was a negative influence for the last 18 months. Ill say the same about Vine when he leaves so I hope people are prepared for that.
I'm not questioning your right to dislike him flyer, but having read the QPRNET thread (couldn't view the other one) I think you are being too hard on him. This post from QPRNET thread by someone called mawesly (?) about the POTY explains it well: âIt never ceases to amaze me that we think that footballers would react to disappointment any differently to the rest of us. If any of us had been a very big fish in a little pond and then through unfortunate and actually very sad circumstances we found ourselves very much out of favour I suspect most of us would be likely to be tripping over our bottom lips. I'm not trying to justify his behaviour but to call him a disgrace is a little over dramatic and as for not being fit to wear the shirt well sorry but I think you have a very short memory. Maybe it's easy to forget the dark times when he really did stand out from the crowd and worked his socks off when we now have a team where to be fair he probably is surplus to requirementsâ
Defo a top bloke and am gutted he didnt get another look in. I know the club has moved on, but always felt that Rowly deserved something back for his effort. Great servant for the club over a long time, ups and downs. As for telling fans where to go etc, doesnt everyone have an off day and didnt you ever bite when someone was winding you up? ps. His Mrs sure is gorgeous...she was pulling a few pints down the local a few weeks ago!! ;o)
Jammers, you register dislike of a post by saying so, get stuck in. To be fair to Flyer he has given his reasons for what he said, you can’t ask for more than that. You and I do not agree with him. Like N22, I think he is being far too harsh. Rowly will always be a legend in my eyes for what he has done for this club, Flyer’s opinion of him has been discoloured by these events. If I was Brixton I could say something really clever now, but you’ll have to settle for “if we all agreed it would get dull”.
yeah yeah...i know what ya saying Roller. I meant more as a voting type thang...you know how you can hit the tick or cross on Sky Sports and the like. Would probably help in the proposed monthly awards as well? Maybe not the best idea to be honest...might just encourage WUMs I have no fear from stating that I disagree with Flyer or anyone else...it was my reaction to Flyer's initial comments that got me posting on this thread in the first place ;o)
