I have no problem with people who choose not to take the vaccine dying. That's their choice. If it were purely Darwinian then, frankly, I'd welcome it. It's when they infect the 2% of people for whom the vaccine doesn't work, or people who haven't been offered it yet. Or incubate a mutant strain that allows vaccine escape. That's the problem. And you've played the evidence game with me before, and lost. Here are the first 5 results from google scholar with the search "effectiveness of Covid 19 vaccine" Note that the search term doesn't bias the result, and that I've taken the first five results, so as not to cherry-pick favourable results. All of them report that vaccines are highly effective (63% one dose ~95-98% two doses). A youtube video?
I have no problem with people who choose not to take the vaccine dying. Oh aye, and what scholarly publication did you lift that little gem from then??? Mein Kampf !!!!
We are back on full lockdown here from tomorrow, until late July, which means 100% WFH for all non-essential businesses, non-essential retail outlets shut, supermarkets on limited opening hours and food outlets only open for deliveries. Long distance domestic travel only possible if you have had at least one vaccination and a negative PCR test. Cases are at record levels (about 1.2X UK) and deaths were 2500 last week (nearly 60X higher than UK). Obviously the healthcare system is better there but I think the fact that UK vaccination levels are much higher and they are using the more effective vaccines is definitely improving the outcomes for patients. I would suspect another factor in lower death rates in UK is that there are a higher percentage of young people in the infections, as they are less likely to be vaccinated, but less likely to suffer complications. Thinking about making a dash for UK while Indonesia is still Amber status as I don't want to have those pesky G4S security guards trying on their sponsored sexual harassment (or chat-up techniques according to @Roy Munson) with me in a quarantine hotel. It will mean I might be available for beers earlier in July as long as @Albert's Chip Shop is not requiring all attendees to be doubly vaccinated and show a negative PCR test.
This. I had a look at the hospital admissions curve and it’s starting slightly to tilt upwards but nothing like it did in the past.
Cases are high but deaths are very low. Its time to unlock properly but perhaps maintain the hygiene and mask wearing for a little while longer
I suspect that in some places (ie: hospitals, gp surgeries, etc) the masks will now be a permanent feature, and probably should be. The hygiene part should have been permanent long before Covid!! In motorway service stations it amazes me still how many blokes don't wash their hands after going to the toilet, even now.
It amazes me that anyone actually checks whether other people are washing their hands in motorway toilets.
It's hard to miss when you move to allow them space to walk to the sinks while still social distancing and then they just push past you to the exit instead!
That's an opinion rather than a scientific fact. I have noticed before you have trouble telling the difference...
Just pointing out the rank-hypocrisy of your post, you seem more than happy for 20/30% of the population to die to protect 2%...
it amazes me how long folk linger around gents bogs counting the number of non hand washers. Bogs are horrible places. Especially the Milburn bogs
I have it on good authority they have been cleaned just for you they even have left a commode underneath your seat for when you cannot get there in time
