Is it me, or is this starting to do real damage to the English domestic game FFS Downsides: - Players have to travel a lot more overseas for largely meaningless friendlies which the vast majority of football fans I know do not give a shiny sh1t about. Players also pick up injuries which their club sides then have to carry. - the cancellation of Saturday 3pm kick offs means even more midweek games - often in the winter. This in turn leads to lower crowds and more fan disengagement from their clubs. Work commitments mean that many supporters cannot get to these wholly unnecessary midweek games, also meaning less revenue for domestic clubs. - fragmentation of the domestic season. This is now the 4th poxy interruption so far this season - and for what ?? To see Wayne Rooney get a worthless cap in a worthless friendly. Momentum is key when you are trying to build a successful season - these pointless nothing international fixtures are once again doing real damage to clubs like ours. The only time I am interested in England and international foot ball is for a fortnight once every two years at the Euros and the World Cup - thats as it should be. Pointless international friendlies played for the benefit of bald Irish US emigres, should be restricted to the summer only.
You get my point though. Liverpool can't be happy with a world class full back like Robertson playing friendlies against the likes of Belize.
Quite a number of Scotland players are withdrawing from these games giving spurious excuses. Craig Brown says they should not be picked again. Alan Hansen was like that, which is why he only got 16 caps. I agree with your basic point though. There is also the fact that the top teams have to play more games than the rest anyway due to their guaranteed place in the so-called "Champions League", which is another factor in downgrading international football.
All things being equal I would rather we played Portsmouth on a Saturday than a Tuesday evening. But that's the way it's going to be. We may lose a little ground next weekend, but some of our crocked players do get some extra recovery time I suppose.
My main concern is that it is fragmenting the domestic season. Stop start...stop start. And damaging lower league clubs like ours.
We haven't got two weeks of Charlton boredom after all.. How could I forget our blockbuster in the Checkatrade Trophy tomorrow night
One more reason why International Football isn't worth wasting time or money over; The recall of Wayne Rooney for England V USA - because "he deserves it" according to Gareth 'Mr Integrity' Southgate. Yeah, righto Gareth England caps aren't worth sh*t.
God, this is a crap weekend. Life in League One is now getting seriously depressing. By 16th November of our 3rd season last time around we had 40 points, 5 clear at the top of the table with only one league defeat in 17 games and a GD of +25. Both Sheffield teams, Huddersfield, Brentford and Preston NE were trailing in our wake. This weekend we could be dislodged from our fingertip hold on 6th place by Accrington Stanley or Coventry City. No wonder we can barely get 7,000 fans through the turnstiles compared to twice that number only seven seasons ago.
I'm going to assume you meant K6 rather than K3 Elfs, unless you are insisting on being white... 1. Prawn to E4 ... Prawn to E6 2. Horsie to C3 ...
