OK, here's a thought out of left-field.

Why don't we make playing for England an honorarium again?

We'd soon see how many of the current side were doing it for the pride of representing their country at the highest level and how many were doing it for the cash.

I think we might see a few players 'standing down from the International game to prolong their club career'.

 

I think you make a good point, Tewks. However, many of the players earn a great deal in England related contracts/sponsorships that their appearance fee becomes rather insubstantial.
