I also have my concerns about what attracted both parties in this new coaching deal as there really isn't much to get excited about. On a slight side note I noticed that we don't have a single goal scorer in the top 21 in the Championship and that in itself is a shocking damnation of the situation that has been allowed to fester at Ashton Gate. Mind you if you look at years gone by when we always had a player or two in the top 15 or so we still never managed to achieve anything of note. Looking at the situation that the Lansdowns alone have created it makes me wonder again what on earth are they playing at when they have clearly stated success is priority number one and followed it up with strange decisions to say the least. I hope this time it works for us but I have serious reservations about the entire set-up that has taken us down so many dead ends to have become slightly worse than a bad joke.

So back to 2017/18 levels, hence selling Alex and Antoine to offset losses. Things don't seem to have changed that much then do they, except now we have virtually no high value assets left to sell.

It can't all have been wages then, as the 2021/22 figures would be far better, as we had income then that we didn't have in 20/21 to offset wages, and we ditched the higher earners. I have long suspected (and stated many times) that the figures didn't stack up just on player fees and wages. There must be still some stadium or HPC upgrade costs stashed in these figures.

Think what you're trying to get across is the amount of transfer fees going out since 2017 far far far outweigh the amount spent, hence the reason we have far far inferior players trying to progress in one of the most competitive leagues in the world!!

I think Cliftonville was saying that COVID was irrelevant and we simply overspent.
I’m arguing that Covid WAS relevant in that it halted our buying and selling process which was how we made our money at that time and the debts mounted up.
If COVID hadn’t hit then we probably would’ve carried on using money from sales to offset expenditure.

I certainly did not state COVID was irrelevant. City were in danger of breaching the three year FFP cycle prior to COVID hence costs had to be cut. Due to COVID the cycle was increased to four years, which brought City into FFP line with the profit the club made in 18/19 being included in the calculation.

Your agreeing with cliftonville there as City always had to cut costs by selling players COVID or no COVID. A **** off loss with selling players turned into a bigger **** off loss without sellin. if City spunked less money up the wall in the first place the club wouldn't be in that spend and sell sell cycles.

totally disagree we went into covid with a profitable season and until March 2020 we doing OK .. Good gates plenty of "non football events" catering franchises doing OK, liklihood could sell a couple players for reasonable fee [ Not massive but around £2-4m ] and any loss would have been [ was in calculation for 3 year period ] off set by circa £10m profit, for seasons 20/21 & 21/22 so likely 22/23 could show a loss but not £38m!

You of course can totally disagree, but first you may want to check Bristol City accounts versus the underlined. Bristol City lost 38m for the period 20/21 followed by a loss of 25m for the period 21/22.

What I said was this - BCFC would have had to go into a period of significant cost cutting without COVID. It wasn't COVID that trebled the clubs wage bill.

Bristol City sold Bryan, Flint, Kelly and Reid and that would not have covered the losses in the previous seasons. Players would have still had to been sold to continue to balance the books without COVID. COVID increased the losses the already loss making and sailing close to to breeching FFP were already making.

any loss would have been offset by circa profit from previously, as we all know calculations are done over 3 years ... so 22/23 is year 3 .... 21/22 is year 2 ... and 20/21 is year 1 SO bearing in mind we are talking WITHOUT COVID ..... year 1 would have been with a balance of circa £10m profit carried over! from 19/20

Haha just checking we all support the same club, right? We went off topic super fast on this thread. I get some people are torn on NP. I thought it was a peculiar decision but it’s happened now and no point in letting it fester.

I think most of us are perplexed by what SL is trying to achieve by putting baby Lansdown in the hot seat when he has zero experience at this, which in my view is abundantly clear.

We look a little thread bare when it comes to long term future prospects. Conway and Bell, but as someone else mentioned, that’s our only two prospective

So with that said, does anyone see attracting half decent talent a problem under JL, Tinnion and our shiny new (and relatively green) manager? Or is that just not a strategy for this club going forward? Is it going to be youth youth youth?

Thanks, I moved to Vancouver Island in Canada in 2018. Very happy in every possible way, job of my dreams, waterfront home, 6 months of summer, no snow. But the football is effing awful. Truly truly poor. My dad came out this summer and I took him to a Pacific FC game and he was baffled as to why there were two 5ft8 blokes playing at CB. Why did everyone have to stand on their feet to acknowledge that the game was being played on the former indigenous land of the Lekwungen First Nations people, and what the hell did LGBTQ2+ movement have to do with football and why are their drag/transgender rights people running up and down the touch lines with rainbow flags I didn’t have the heart to tell him it was the tip of the iceberg out in this part of the world and that it seemed to be a relatively light day for woke’dom.

Yes, we do know the club was going to have negative balances. For 20/21 the FC stated it was heavily dependent on player trading, because we know the FC was going to lose huge sum without it and did. The accounts indicated a clear short fall. Richard Gould stated the loss revenue due to COVID was £11m+ for 20/21 without players. The FC was planning to sell further players to balance the loss they knew they were always going to make. Richard Gould stated this loss of player trading was in the region of £19m. Adding that figure to £11m the club would still had made a financial loss. We know, I predicted a large financial loss, for sure.

I could do the figures for 21/22, but its a similar theme we know the way the FC was being ran that a large loss was inevitable. We being the ones who do not take pills ..
