Carroll is the new Duncan Ferguson.............. unplayable when on fire.................. but more often than not laying on the treatment bench. If we were going to spend that sort of money, which we are not, then it would be wasted on him.

But it is irrelevant because there is absolutely no way we will spend anywhere near that sum of money on half a dozen players, let alone one. let history be your guide, not one pissed up Sky 'interview'

I pretty much agree with all of this. He is a cracking player when he is fit. Unplayable. You get half decent crosses in the box and he just marmalises the opposition defenders. We've seen this plenty. However when is he going to be fit? 10-15 games a season? How will that help us? Don't get me wrong if the option was you get Carroll or no one, then yes please. Otherwise not for me.

I don't think we are crying out for pace up top, we have Perez and Arma for the hole. It might be nice though in terms of SDJ is our best option for the 10 role without doubt. His lack of pace may be aided by a quick forward.

Bottom line is aside from this summer, we don't spend money. Based on this summer we don't really spend it wisely. Good players yes but we don't prioritise. There isn't a clear plan. And Thauvin was a daft buy. If you have a limited budget which 50m was in our situation, the last thing we needed was some young french player who needed a year to settle. That is a "nice to have" situ. Its not Thauvins fault, and you are doing him a disservice by putting him in the situ we have. People rightly now expect because we have blown a chunk of the budget on him, but the reality is he should only have been bought when the actual cornerstones/spine of the team are in place.
