In the past WFC played cricket in the close season against a local side. From memory GT was very keen on this fixture. Is this still played? Do we have 11 players that know the rules? Who would make a good left arm slow bowler?

Going by some of the views given by the players in the programme on their least favourite sport probably not!

TBF as you suggest it was more the fact they didn't understand it..

I mean Capoue and Doucouré might know about French cricket...and the former has admitted he isn't even fan of football!

Mind you Will Hughes suggested he and Tom Cleverley watched the game last week..

Not sure its Deeney's cup of tea or Gray's but never know.

GT was a big cricket fan and I think we had Alec Chamberlain/Steve Palmer who played cricket as youngsters.

That is a good question NZ. I remember that GT used to arrange the game, and I think it was against Langleybury. I have not found any reference to it so far, and don't know when the last game was played. I wonder if it took place when there was a longer summer break from football. Must try and find out more.

Found this from July 2010.

A Watford XI will be taking on Langleybury in a charity Twenty/20 cricket match next Friday.

It will be the second Watford FC cricket match of the summer after they lost to Chipperfield Clarendon by nine runs in June.

A side mostly consisting of former players will be playing at Langleybury’s Hunton Bridge ground on July 16, with the match starting at 6.15pm.

Watford’s goalkeeping coach Alec Chamberlain was the star of the show last time around, with an unbeaten 59, and he should be in the line-up once again.

Luther Blissett, Steve Sherwood, Ian Bolton and Derek Payne are also amongst those expected to take part.

I guess its a bit like the Golf Day the club have - now its just backroom staff or people who work at the club.

TBF I bet if Deeney and Foster for example got asked they'd probably turn up but now its probably all "cannot have them playing other sports" etc.
