Annie Nightingale has died aged 83. A big part of my youth, always remember her presenting The Old Grey Whistle Test, taking over from Bob Harris. Along with John Peel, she really championed punk music. This was one of her favourites, R.I.P. bonny lass.
Yes she was just a radio/TV DJ but she loved and presented some of the best music we've ever had. I didn't like her personality and found her a little pompous but she was very good at her job and the bands seemed to respect her. Compared to the vacuous shallow wanabees, like Sarah Cox, she suddenly seems like an icon of musical sensibility and good taste. Rest in peace, you seem to have lived the dream. https://news.sky.com/story/broadcas...le-radio-1s-first-female-dj-has-died-13046592
Sad news Smug. I liked her, she played stuff not many would. I thought she was a breath of fresh air, her and John Peel. R.I.P. Annie.
Hosted some classic old grey whistle test shows always championed up and coming bands. Didn’t realise how much she had done in the 60’s. RIP a very genuine young lady who stuck to her beliefs
Cant believe how old she was. Along with John Peel and a few others, made radio a platform for bands. RIP.
