saw this myself and was annoyed. £250k for a brilliant prospect is ridiculous. even £1m seemed a bit low, especially when you consider how much some kids get bought for, eg. raheem sterling £5m, without ever playing a game

Just goes to show, doesn't really matter who your Dad is, kids make their own choices these days, can't really see Gunny being too impressed with Gus' decision. From the article it seems like he decided to go and not the other way round... though no doubt tempted by a fat pay deal in prospect at citeh

actually i think gunn senior had everything to do with it! he moved job up there for work and took angus with him. he tried to get him in at man united as well so angus basically followed his old man and the family up to manchester because he was still only 15 at the time. i'm sure he wasn't devastated by moving to man city but it wasn't his choice to make

I can't get my head around this, I thought that clubs could only sign acadamy players from within a certain catchment area ? I've obviously got 'the wrong end of the stick' here, but could someone please enlighten me ?

if you pay for an elite player performance plan, which we have recently signed up to, you can get kids from anywhere, catchment area has gone out of the window. The cynic in me says yet again the big clubs will mop up.

Do you think he'd choose England rather than Scotland? I know he's played for England schoolboys, but so did Ryan Giggs!

I hope so! It's much more impressive to say you've scored against the England goalie than to say you've scored against the Scotland one!

Come to think of it, with England's recent goalkeeping record, maybe not... :D

Bit of a piss take really fair play to board for not accepting this. I know Gunn was moving up North anyway so he didn't really have much of a choice, but if we're to have an academy which is going to lose players to big boys we might as well take them to the cleaners financially. What I don't want is us to become a feeder club.

It is a shame to lose obviousley a very talented goalkeeper for peanuts, if he went from arsenal to man city i bet the same amount wouldnt have been paid! no matter though cos we have a huge talent in the wings in young jed steer <ok>

We don't have produce some keepers eh!

What I don't understand though is how can Chelsea pay Man City 3-5mil or whatever for Sturridge yet we only get 250k for Gunn? I mean both at a similar age were touted as possible internationals and stars of the future..

Ironically the tribunal panel probably looked at the (ridiculously low) transfer fee for Joe Lewis when he left us when they decided on this.

i think we got a pretty good deal for joe lewis. massively over rated in my opinion. we got £400k + add-ons for a player who wasn't as good as the younger keepers coming through below him. it was a calculated sale and one which i think was correct. in any case, the fee for lewis wasn't decided by tribunal - we chose to sell him for £400k.

Lets face it, when we were negotiating for Holt, Lambert, Mackail Smith etc we tried to drive the price down. You can't blame ManCity for doing the same. Tribunals never work other than compromising and for a young keeper with no experience 250K is a lot of money.
