Fair enough. Can't see who you are trying to wind up tho'. Matth? Assist ratio was quick mental arithmetic - number of games played divided by assists. Like I say, not sure how accurate those figures are, but given how few assists the top players get compared to the top goalscorers, 1 in 2.5 seems pretty damn good for a player who hasn't played much of his career in the AM/SS position where most assists seem to come from.
Shows how good SAF was. It is only when he leaves that you realise the impact he had on the club, the squad and the team. But then you could argue he had 26 years to refine his methods to a tee. Also the greatest quality which was the incredible unique stability (26 years) of having a single manager overnight became the biggest drawback and liability. Everyone from tealady to Chief executive never mind players and coaches had been used to having him around. I expected it and I am just so surprised that so many people at the club and so many fans did not expect it to happen and didn't prepare for it.
BBC Sport European football expert Andy Brassell on Di Maria - From 'pigeon-toed runt' to British transfer record buy "He is not a Real Madrid reject by any stretch of the imagination. They want him to go because he wouldn't accept the situation of getting the wages he is getting at the moment, which is much less than Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. (Real coach) Carlo Ancelotti wanted to keep him. He was one of their best players during the second half of last season. Di Maria is so determined. People wrote him off when Bale arrived. He proved that he deserved to be there at Real in a different position he had initially proved himself in. He reinvented himself. You couldn't have imagined it when he first arrived in Europe. He looked like a bit of a pigeon-toed runt to be honest, awkward and not at all athletic at Benfica. The amount he has grown at Real is extraordinary. I think he will play deeper in midfield for Manchester United but they also need other players around him to get the best out of him." .................... Great to have him..BUT we need another 3 -4 world class players around him the GGs better keep their wallets open.
The bottom line here is that United have financial clout to buy big, matching Citeh and Chelski. All the other premiership clubs including Arsenal cannot compete, and that's allowing for the Arse lack of big money savings over the last couple of years. Sanchez was 25 mill, so it can't be classified as a huge spend. Spurs tried to replace Bale with several players from footballs equivalent of a car boot sale, and achieved nowt. If Angel can hack it in the premiership, then all will be fine. But its no good claiming this is the turning point. What we must also give LVG credit for is blooding youngsters, which he is well known for succeeding at other clubs. When ( or if) some of the walking wounded get fully fit, then we should progress.
