Don't really see the problema myself. He's Scottish and he's posted what he thinks about a question everyone else is talking about. It does'nt necessarily mean he hates the English (there are some who don't). To be honest, I think it's much more offensive the abuse he's reportedly had for daring to raise his head above the parapet. I certainly agree with AHLL about the TWITter name being fairly clear. There's a few low life's on there who can't seem to function without offending the people around them.
The issue with Murray is he is and always be immature around dealing with his "fans". In 2006, his second year in major tournaments I think, he said he would "support whoever England were playing against" in relation to the World Cup. It was clear it was a young nieve man making such a comment when England had no real upcoming talent and therefore to add to his possible 5m (Rough guess of Scotlands population) fans he had a lot of the UK following him. He instantly got disliked and paid the price. Then obviously as he got better he employed a new media agent who advised him to apologise for such a comment which he did in about 2012 (i think). From then, with no alternative fickle English people follow him every Wimbledon even though I think it is quite clear (personal opinion) that he doesn't like the English for any other reason than they provide him a great boost of income. And then he makes this comment. But as someone said, he will still get support.
It was funny that whilst he said he wanted independence he made comment somewhere (havent seen this myself but heard from a few people) he would still play in the davis cup for team GB. Er, I don't think so. In fact, if you really don't want to be part of the UK then don't compete in the team. Simples.

As for twitter, it may be for twits, but I enjoy reading twits posts. And is an awful lot better for traffic reports than any news outlet I can tell you.
My favourite was Ben Hamer tweeting with the location left on his settings, so you knew exactly where he lived. He was soon told to disable it. The Glasgow "riots" last night were hilarious. Images of two larger ladies and a young lad holding their hands up with independence voters stating they were Nazi saluting, along with a photo of a fire that apparently been set by unionists at a pro independent papers headquarters which was in fact apparently a fire next door. Oh and the "murder" in the city centre being reported on twitter which in fact never happened. All reposted time and again with the words "and you lot wanted this union!" scare mongering. Twitter can be useful, but it can also be a great way for extremely inaccurate stories to emerge and be spun. Luckily most people there have brains........ Ok, maybe not.

My view exactly FHB. I've got a Welsh mate who lives in Scotland who threw himself into the YES cause. He basically jammed my Facbook page by filling it up with 'vote yes' propaganda. At one point, I tried to draw a line between Nigel Farage, who he loathes, and Alec Salmond. Cue arguements about,...well...everything. But the end result for me is nationalism and socialism don't mix. If you're more worried about where people were born, what race they are, or what flag you want to salute, you're away with the mixer as far as socialism goes.
We've got some here in Catalunya, the Platform for Catalunya. They witter on about more doctors, better schools and so on, but their real motive is just 'pack 'em up and send 'em back'.

There is a big difference between skilled foreigners who work and pay taxes and economic ponces. For the latter, pack them up and ship the f**ers out.
Does Great Britain need skilled workers? Yes. Does Great Britain need Latvian murderers, Kurdish Big Issue sellers, and Polish baristas? No.
Nationalism is this country's only salvation, yet there are too many bottlers and wet-behind-the-ears liberals who will happily see the downfall of this great nation. And to what end? We must be seen to cure the world's ills, and it must be to the detriment of those who pick up the bill.

I'll modify it a bit by saying that I think nationalism is OK on the football or rugby terraces, and it's a pity that Andy Murray's "anyone but England" is taken so seriously. However when you take nationalism further it leads to intolerance, contempt and even hatred of other nationalities, or even of those who do not share one's nationalistic views. An extreme example of this is the Norwegian gunman who ran amok recently. This is the opposite of a positive type of patriotism, for example I am immensely proud of the fact that I come from the heart of Burns country, and that Scotland has produced IMO not only the world's best poet but also the world's worst (McGonagall). Similarly England has produced Shakespeare, the Beatles, Elgar, Darwin and has a fantastic capital city and I could go on, but you get my drift, I'm sure you are proud of many things English. I doubt whether many members of the BNP know anything about any of these people.
Yes we can't trust any individual to be nationalist, particularly the English. In fact only the English. Look what their nationalism has done for this world. Churchill should never have entered politics, he as far to right wing and probably would have voted BNP and as for that pirate, Nelson, well he hated the French - what a dong.
Why is it that st David, st Patrick, st Andrew days are all celebrated and st George is frowned upon and almost outlawed because us English can't be nationalist without someone drawing the comparison with extremism.

Maybe that's why the English celebrate St Patrick's Day. It's the only one of the 4 worth celebrating. I used to celebrate it myself, but have not done so since I came home after one St Patrick's night and pissed on the wife's computer.
English nationalism is frowned upon and always will be. St Patricks day is the most racist anti english gathering since the armada and yet nobody takes it seriously and rightly so. However Rotherham county council I recall banned proposals for celebrations of st George's day for fear it may upset the local Muslims. Which is a pity. as it may have taken their group efforts away from raping local white girls.

St Patricks is huge over here too. And why? It's a piss up, and people like it. I count myself as English, then European and British, but St George's day is about buying a rose, so I'll give it a miss and go out with the Irish.

Great song, Dickp. Being an old folkie from the '60's revival I probably know more about England's folk tradition than 99% of English people, it was Nic Jones who made me realise what fantastic songs you have. His album "Penguin Eggs" is a masterpiece. And there's absolutely nothing to stop anyone from enjoying their own roots music- try "Folk on 2" Wednesdays at 7.
