Helguson is so much better then Carroll in the air. so i don't see the point of spending £15m+ on him when we have some1 who can do a better job we can spend it in others areas of the squad
HH is great but hes 34 and his knees are held together by elastic bands. This will also be his last season. Bothroyd does not win headers. Being tall doesnt make you a target man. Vine proved that and he was 2" taller than HH.
Read what i put before you comment i said i would not spend £15+ on a forward when other areas need additions more like defense and cm as im happy with the forwards we have.
And where did i say being tall makes you a target man?????????? A target man is not just about winning headers its about holding up the ball and bringing other players into the game which Bothroyd is.
That can be the only explanation for you somehow thinking JB is a target man because he has never played like one. Either that or you dont know what a target man is.
I have to agree with Flyer, Bothroyd is not really a target man, in the sense of winning headers and holding the ball up. He said so himself in an interview last season, although what that does make him, I'm not sure!
Case closed. I think any doubt was lost when he played up front on his own and spent most of the time running into the channels leaving no one to nod home his crosses. Hes always terrible on his own which means to me that he is a secondary striker like Cisse or Johnson and not a target man like HH or Zamora who can thrive on their own.
Flyer...you really have something against players over 30 dont you!? I think HH might be around for 2 more seasons personally. Bothroyd is a bit of hybrid target man...he is tall and whilst he can hold the ball up, his aerial ability is not great...he does have great control and a fair amount of skill when on form though, something than many target men lack and what makes him a slightly different breed imo.
AJ and Cisse do that, are they target men? JB himself has admitted publically that hes not one as has a previous manager of his. You are only digging a bigger hole for yourself. Are you seriously suggested a target man should run to the touchline and deliver crosses to the smaller strikers? Seriously? "Dave Jones, told BBC Radio’s Sportsweek yesterday. “He’s not an out-and-out big target man. He can drift, he’s got good ability, good pace.’’" I love HH but hes injured a lot and would think this is his last season, certainly with us.
If we are defining target men that HH when fit is just about the perfect example: fantastic in the air for a smaller player and great hold up play on the ground. Not to mention ice cool finishing when the need arises. Its a real shame that we are unlikely to see him paired with Cisse for any length of time.
