I haven't got it yet mate, keep on meaning to buy it but I'm hectic in work right now so wouldn't be able to use it as I'm all over the place right now. Will probably order the one Shirehorse mentioned
I recently bought an MXQ through a mate updated with the latest KODI. Add ons include Genesis, Phoenix and Sports Devil and Vdub 25 best thing I bought and just reduced my Virgin package as I now only need the minimum. I am now in sports heaven without the financial pain. All done for £55 bargain!
I really think that you can avoid getting any sort of box as long as you have a fairly recent android smart phone.
You can install Kodi on it yourself and I have Genesis and SportsDevil on mine. The only thing I had to pay for was a lead to attach to my TV. That cost me £14 from PC WORLD.

I don't have an android phone, to get one would be more than the box which comes with the correct cable. So I've ordered the one mentioned above.
