Clivetime It must be hard trying to talk sense to the rest of your lot. Good on ya bud, nice to see someone being honest asbout their team and talking football sense!!
He hedges his bets with vague statements all the time. He occasionally comes out with the odd comment to big up ailing players or tow the party line on finances which people rabidly perceive as stupidity. Where finances (and by implication transfers) are concerned, the only person responsible for our failure is Bates. We've spent nothing compared with the teams around us last season or this time round. Despite that, Grayson is getting decent passing football out of a reasonably good squad.
Vague just about sums him up! He shouldn't be bigging up ailing players, they shouldn't be anywhere near the club. And he actually runs down quality players. What he said about Schmeichel was a disgrace! You need balls to be a top manager, towing the party line shows that Grayson doesn't. Have you noticed how many people mention how well Grayson is doing with what little budget he has to work with? If he spent money and didn't do any better, no one would be able to say that. Is he getting decent passing football out of signings like Collins and Paynter? Or is it the players who developed a passing style under McAllister and it suits their game? At times I'd say that Grayson gets hoofball out of good passing players!
Every club has ailing players and if a manager doesn't respond to that either positively or negatively, he's doing a bad job. What was disgraceful that he said about Schmeichel? Nobody's arguing that he's a top manager. The slightest dissent with that cretin Bates and you're out of the door. When you're one of his managers, you either willingly leave your balls at the entrance or get castrated anyway. Irrelevant because it seems he's barely received any money. When Paynter's played, he's passed OK and involved the midfield. His role isn't really a passing one, though, is it? As for Collins, that was a disaster all round, though you can point to any manager and show where they've signed a hoofing clogger in defence at some point. The team don't play hoofball, they mostly pass out of defence and midfield and do things on the ground. Hoofball teams don't turn out top scorers for 95% of a Championship season.
I'm not saying we're a hoofball team, but Grayson is a hoofball manager. The quality players we have were there before he came, most of the players he's signed have been donkeys. Grayson basically rubbished Schmeichel and said he was to blame for us conceding so many goals.
I dealt with this point on the Grayson in/out thread. How can one be expected to sign anything else with such meagre resources? He's still had a passable 'hit' ratio with his transfers. He was to blame for quite a few. Again, you're taking too much from these bullshitty press conferences which are designed to portray the club in a good light whether the truth is told or not.
Schmeichel had a fantastic season for us, and even if he was useless, you don't come out and say that about a player you've sold. It was disgusting and paints the club in a really poor light. You're adding weight to my point about Grayson not wanting to spend money as it gives him an excuse for poor transfers.
