Plenty of media reports claiming that we have this deal as good as done and that Rudi Voeller and Schurrles father are in London this week to wrap it up

Fee set to be 20m but will be reduced as Kevin De Bruyne goes on loan to them

I like this scenario, we get a top player and keep a promising one on our books in KDB, only problem could be De Bruyne himself who will be aware we turned down 14m from Dortmund this week for him
 
If we end up actually selling De Bruyne we're a ****ing joke. Same goes for Courtois for the so called Falcao deal.
 
Anyone know much about Shurrie? What type of player is he, where would he fit in etc? Have to say, don't think i've seen anything of him.

Hope we keep De Bruyne but another year on loan would not be the end of the world. Same with Courtois; they are both increasing their fee if sold and increasing their experience if not. Win win.

He primarily plays out wide but has two good feet meaning he can switch sides no problem he can also play off the striker or actually push up and play either along side someone or play as the lone front man himself the best way I can describe him is a younger Podolski.

We were a ****ing joke anyway, with Mata, Oscar, Hazard, De Bruyne, Moses, Marin, McEachran, all vying for 3 spots with, Piazon, Baker, Boga etc not too far further behind. I'm sure I've missed some. We'll have to give many of these kids up without giving them a proper chance.

I've been saying this for ages - there is absolutely NO forward thinking going on. No consideration of consequences. No insight. Everything is done on a whim, be it going for the current in-vogue player or adopting the current in-vogue playing system.

He's got huge talent but a bit rough around the edges, pretty much as you could say about Bale before this season. He doesn't look like a £20mill players at the moment but if things click for him in England that may change. I guess that makes him a bit like Oscar, he's not anywhere near worth that but given your funds you can take a gamble on how good he could be in 2/3 years time.

As for his style he's a direct player, can run at players with the ball or knock it past them but his end product is erratic, his crossing isn't great but he seems to spend most of his time cutting inside anyway and his shots can go anywhere, at times he'll finish clinically but too many times he'll mess up really good chances and from outside the box it's the same story, he wastes a lot of the ball but every now and then one goes flying in. The Bundesliege suits him as it's very easy to counterattack, there are very few sides that will actually set up to defend from the off, infact Leverkusen are one of the few that defend well(no surprise with Hyypia in charge) which is probably why they're so high up the league. I guess it depends how you end up playing next season, if you get Mourinho and he has his way, I think he'll suit your team but if Abramovich still wants to see Chelsea play like Barcelona, he won't. Personally I think he's best playing off the striker, rather than pretending to be a winger and cutting inside all the time and if he improves his finishing then ultimately I think he'll make a great striker.

Sorry for going on, but Leverkusen are the team I follow most in Germany. You could do a lot worse than signing Reinartz too whilst you're talking to them, he's like Mikel except he's not error prone and reads the game very well.

Good summary YV. An interesting one. In our current set up we arguably need a striker and another winger. Seems Schurrie can play both roles but neither may be his best role.
 
He's so ****ing good. I rate him as one of the top German prospects at the minute, which is saying something considering the talent they're currently producing. The comparisons to Podolski are valid, both can play wide or centrally and both have howitzers for feet. You surely don't need him though you've got so many wingers/cams! And if you're buying him as a central striker he's not really big or strong which I think you guys (and my chelsea supporting friends think) you need.

Disagree mate regarding the wingers theory. I don't think we have enough proper wingers, Moses and Hazard are the only two! Marin is arguably a winger but his build and style suggest otherwise, not only that but he's pretty ****e!

Keeping Sturridge as a winger/striker was what we should've done but unfortunately it's not what he wanted too.

I suppose you're right, but I guess I meant you have too many wingers considering you currently play very centrally. Although If Mourinho comes back I guess you'll start getting in the wingers and playing with them again.

A fair bit of it's borrowed. A friend of a friend lives out in Germany and a few times when he's come back over Christmas I've had a chat with him about football. He's always been going on about Schurrle so I started keeping an eye out for him. He thought he was best in the middle, it's where he had his best season for Mainz as he Holtby and Szalai tore teams apart. From what I've seen I agree, I only usually see highlights of him but even though he's supposedly playing on the wing, he's never in that position by the time the ball gets into the final third. I think he's further away from being a top player than he does, he thought he was going to be a breakthrough player in the Euros. He got Marin spot on though, he was much less enthusiastic about him than I was, myself having seen little of him other than the games against us, and he said he's no winger and overpriced(I think the price talked about at the time was £10-12mill).

I'm a bit annoyed you guys are getting him, I was kind of hoping you guys would be going for Falcao and we'd have a chance at signing him :(
 
Hope he's not too big, cause there's bugger all room left for yet another bum to warm the bench. Or maybe he'll go out on Loan to Teddington United for experience, which he'll never get to use. Then we can sell him on to Galatasary,or use him and De Bruyn and Lukaku as bait to get Falcao. It is Falcao we want isn't it , or are we after Hulk again ??
Meanwhile, not a peep about signing someone we actually need, a controlling midfielder.
Talk about a revolution, we'd all like to see the plan !!!!
 
I'm all for the deal. It seems we are purchasing him more from an out and out striker point of view. Could be deadly playing infront of Mata and Hazard with his versatility. That said, playing him on the left, Mata down the middle and Hazard on the right arguably adds more balance than with Oscar in the team because of the direct nature of his play. His arrival could force the case of making Oscar sit deeper (something I am really in favour of - providing he bulks up).

That said - if De Bruyne is in anyway part of the deal I will be very disappointed. I want to see him back here next season. He offers yet more options for our attack, and arguably would allow us to play without Mata and Hazard in the team without compromising results as much.

I'm with you on De Bruyne, we do need each player backed up with someone of equal or as close to equal ability as possible. That way we can use our rotation policy without weakening the team, and not overplay our stars. For mine, we are short a Central defender, as Ivan is simply much better at right back, Bertram covers for Ashley, and with JT and Cahill, we are short a big, quick skilful defender to pair with Luiz.
Mid is messy, and up front, looking OK. I also expect Marin to improve out of sight with more game time.
 
Forget what I said about his crossing, he set up the opener with a good cross for Kiessling. Lots of pace on the counter having swapped wings, I think and he ended up on the right side of the box with Kiessling running in with no one within 10 yards of him to score.
 
2-0 Schurrle scores from outside the box, having cut in from the left to receive the ball. Good finish although Leverkusen are benefitting from playing 10 men after they got a penalty(which they missed) and he had loads of time to shoot there.

Edit: Infact it's a really nice finish, just places it into the corner with a bit of pace and a bit of curl. Don't sign him he's rubbish <steam>
 
Ended 5-0 after playing most of the match against 10 men so not the best judge of his ability but you couldn't fault him today, showed the clynical side to him, netting twice and picking out Kiessling for the opener. The second might have been an easy chance but it showed the kind of finishing I like, with the keeper scrambling to his left to try and get more into the centre of the goal Schurrle just hit it straight into the keeper's right hand corner, no fuss. I've seen him miss those before though! I'm sure he'll have go the MOTM for today, worth watching the highlights of him in action on ITV4 on Monday(or catchup) if you get a chance.

I stand by what I said about Reinartz too, it was an easy game for him but he still got forward and hammered the 5th in off the crossbar :D
