It was always a Tansad in East Hull but not quite sure where the word came from.
The name of a company, like Hoover with vacuum cleaners. As for Fridays at work, it was known as POETS day, piss off early tomorrow's Saturday. :emoticon-0138-think

I worked for Crown Wallpapers late 70's/early 80's,only 5 of us in the Warehouse. We used to do the same on a Friday, pay packet, hour break, enough time to throw a few down your neck and give yourself a good glow.

4 of us always went back and 1 usually never. He was a really heavy binge drinker, got the taste for it,went on it for the weekend and you'd see him Monday(sometimes).Other times his Mrs would turn up looking for him with the bairns in the buggy,as he hadn't been home all weekend...
The thing we couldn't understand Ric was, we'd do that on a Friday and still be allowed to work a 12 hour overtime shift on both a Saturday and Sunday. <laugh>

I wouldn't understand that either...Most places I worked you never got, or were last resort, to gain access to overtime if you hadn't completed your 40 hrs(or whatever your basic hr's were). It made a lot of sense to me as the alternative allowed the 'Monday Club' to use the loophole every week and technically earn more than you if they were on premium rate for weekends etc.

We eventually found out why Ric, turns out we was completing all the remaining contracts as fast as possible so they could shut the place down. Most times we was working 6am 'til midnight, we all thought the company was doing well and we thought we needed more workers because we couldn't carry on with these hours, it was killing us. After three months of it I had to have a weekend off because I was knackered and I just slept for the time I had off. We was earning great money but not having the time off to enjoy it.

I worked for the wood company behind Oriental Pub and we got paid on a Friday morning in the old brown wage packets. We always went into the pub on a Friday dinner and it always depended what mood we where in whether we went back on the afternoon. Although this happened every Friday, they never changed the time they paid us.
One time I couldn't afford to go in having been off the previous week so had no wages to come, it got to one o'clock and the foreman asked me to go into the pub and tell everyone in there to come back to work. You can imagine the banter I got aimed at me, then one of the blokes got me a pint in and I ended up staying as well. On the Saturday morning overtime the foreman went ballistic at me for staying at the pub.
Those where the days. <laugh><cheers>
I used to work in a building down Osbourne Street and back in the 80’s we used to go upstairs in King Edward above what is now Divas and sink about 6 pints of Sheffield bitter and a huge chip butty served in fresh white bread doorstops. The afternoon’s were spent asleep in store cupboards and on top of boxes until 4 o’clock when we all ****ed off home with a hangover. Happy days.
