An Australian man has launched a defamation case against one of the nation's biggest news channels after it wrongly identified him as an alleged child abductor. In a missing child case that gripped the nation, Cleo Smith, 4, was rescued from a stranger's home on 3 November. Police had charged Terence Kelly with her abduction. But hours after his arrest, Seven wrongly published photos of Terrance Flowers, another Aboriginal man. His lawyers said Seven had significantly injured his character and reputation by misrepresenting him as the main suspect. In the rush after Cleo was found, the news organisation had taken four photos from Mr Flowers' Facebook account - where he used his mother's maiden name Kelly - without his consent. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-59315452

Shocking World tennis champion Naomi Osaka has become the latest athlete to voice concerns over the whereabouts of Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai. One of China's biggest sporting stars, Ms Peng has not been heard from since she made sexual assault allegations against a top Chinese official. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) said it had confirmed that she is "safe and not under any physical threat". However, they were not able to directly reach her. "I was recently informed of a fellow tennis player that has gone missing shortly after revealing that she has been sexually abused," Ms Osaka tweeted, using the hashtag #WhereisPengShuai. "I hope Peng Shuai and her family are safe and ok. I'm in shock of the current situation and I'm sending love and light her way." It comes as a number of tennis players have spoken up about Ms Peng. Earlier this week, world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic said he hoped she would okay, adding that he was shocked. French player Nicholas Mahut also weighed in, saying "we are all concerned". Tennis star accuses top Chinese official of abuse Peng 'must be heard' on sex abuse claim Ms Peng - a former number one ranked tennis doubles player- had posted about the alleged assault against Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli on Chinese social media site Weibo in November. In the post, she said she was "forced" into a sexual relationship with Mr Zhang. Mr Zhang, 75, served as China's Vice Premier between 2013 and 2018 and was a close ally of Chinese President Xi Jinping. He has not responded to her claims. Her post was later taken down from the site and all mention of her on social media have been scrubbed. Ms Peng has also not been seen or heard of publicly since. Chief Executive of the WTA Steve Simon had earlier called on Chinese authorities to conduct "a full and transparent investigation" into Ms Peng's allegations involving sexual assault. "We commend Peng Shuai for her remarkable courage... women around the world are finding their voices so injustices can be corrected." Mr Simon said the WTA had received confirmation from several sources, including the Chinese Tennis Association that Ms Peng was safe, but added that he had not been able to reach her directly. "My understand is that she is in Beijing in China, but I can't confirm that because I haven't spoken directly with her," Mr Simon told news outlet The New York Times. Ms Peng's allegation is the highest profile case in China's #MeToo movement, which has mostly been going under the radar.
The Chinese authorities do themselves no favours whatsoever on the worldwide stage. This on top of the article this week about the extreme runners who died in a freak storm where survivors have been effectively 'silenced' in case they are critical of the organisation of the race. It's no wonder nobody trusts them.
Fella get a job at the local zoo, its a great opportunity. First day, the head zookeeper tells him to go to the aviary and feed the finches.....but dont spook them, they're very sensitive. Half way through, he drops the feed bowls with a clatter and a bang, the finches take fright, darting around the aviary, crashing into one another....and theres a heap of dead finches on the floor. Aghast, he thinks....i will throw them into the lions enclosure, no-one will find them there. Second day, head zookeeper tells him to muck out the chimanzee enclosure....but dont let them mix, make sure theyre in their seperate enclosures or they will be fighting. He starts ok but forgets to lock the enclosures, some escape, start fighting, two die. Nooooo, I will get the sack, what can I do ? So he chucks the dead ones in the lion enclosure...they'll never get found in there. Third day, head zookeeper tells him to check on the apiary, make sure you dont get stung. So he is half way through and accidentally trips over one of the hives, the bees swarm, pandemonium ensues and he tramples a lot of bee's, in the melee. Well, its worked the first couple times, so he shovelled up the dead bees and cast them into the lion enclosure. Couple days later....a new lion arrives at the zoo. He struts his stuff in the new to him enclosure, greets the other lions and asks.... So whats the food like here ? One lion announces, its not bad, been a funny week though, so far this week we had.... Finch, chimps and mushy bee's... What no curry sauce? he says 'No! , What do you think we are? ', they all reply, '****ing animals' ...
So much for the great levelling up. businesses reacted angrily to reports the East Midlands-Leeds HS2 high-speed line would not be built. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59320576
All transport links with Leeds to be severed. Levelling up minister Kemi Badenoch said: “HS2 made us realise that not only should nobody go to Leeds quicker, nobody should go to Leeds at all. It’s a Northern ****hole and that role’s amply filled by Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle. “Anyone who lives or works in Leeds is advised not to. No compensation will be offered. You made the wrong choices, and it’s on you to suffer the consequences. https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/all-transport-links-with-leeds-to-be-severed-20211116214349
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has criticised media outlets for mistakenly using his image in stories about Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy. City and France full-back Benjamin Mendy has been charged with six counts of rape and one of sexual assault, and remains in custody. Photos of Edouard Mendy and his cousin, Real Madrid's Ferland Mendy, have been used to illustrate articles. Edouard Mendy said their use was "highly symbolic". "Sad to see that in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, black people have neither names nor distinct faces," the Senegal international wrote on Instagram. "These 'mistakes' of photos appear anecdotal, but actually they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic. "It's not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help!" In August, Benjamin Mendy was charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault. Those charges related to alleged attacks on three women over the age of 16 at his home between October 2020 and August 2021. On Wednesday, the 27-year-old appeared in court to face two further charges of rape, related to alleged attacks in Macclesfield in July and August. He was suspended by City after being charged by police, pending an investigation. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/59334604
