My dad was a plumber and gas fitter. One day he goes around to a customers house in Kirk Eller to fit a new boiler.

First thing he always did was do a pressure test to ensure there isn't a pre-existing leak. He quick concludes there a pretty serious leak. He has a quick look around so he can isolate the gas supply and finds the home owner had cut the main gas pipe into the house either side of the meter. Fitted two T-junctions and ran a rubber hose to partially bypass the meter. He done a professional job though with duct tape and everything. <laugh>

Controversial maybe, but sometimes I think MPs should be paid more.
Not the existing ones, but a planned for increase in perhaps a couple of General Elections time to encourage better people to choose to be one.
They’re not badly paid of course (£94k) but compared to the pay of high achieving people that’s not excessive.
That means the people wanting to be MPs are more likely to be people who couldn’t earn that elsewhere who are attracted by the money, or people who have so much money it doesn’t matter what they earn and they get in a position where they can influence policy which might help them keep their other wealth.
As it stands the Prime Minister is paid less than Hull City Council’s Chief Exec and MPs are paid less than their Assistant Director of IT.

I know there are other perks, and likely employment after being an MP, but I’m not convinced the current system attracts the best people.

How many of those 'low paid' MP's start with next to nothing, yet end up millionaires on that salary and a short term in office?
