The expression “call a spade a spade” comes from the work of Plutarch, who originally wrote “call a fig a fig & a trough a trough.” Figs & troughs were crude slang for the Vulva, so what Plutarch meant was “call a c*nt a c*nt”. When Erasmus (1466-1536) translated Plutarch’s work & changed it to a garden spade to avoid embarrassment. https://x.com/whoresofyore/status/1695709183457325427?s=46&t=DAxwWj15XaMBwCrrY9gKFQ
I had one of them bikes. In fact I’m pretty sure that she’s sitting on my Chopper. She’s one hell of a pretty girl. You know what Bernie, I think I’ve shot my bolt. And one from the peerless Bob Monkhouse: People used to laugh at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well they’re not laughing now. I’m here all week.
I worked at Butlins many years ago. Bob Monkhouse loved Butlins and always did a summer season around the sites. As you can imagine I saw hundreds of comedians over my time there. Monkhouse was the absolute God. The way he worked an audience, his material and stage presence was something to behold. Always watched other comedians and interacted with the people paying to see him afterwards. A master of his craft and a decent human being. Other comedians hung on his every word, and rightly so.

Staff and students at West Point, the famed US military academy, gathered on Monday for what was supposed to be a historic moment: the opening of a mysterious 1820s time capsule, discovered months ago at the base of a campus monument. The event was live-streamed, starting with pre-recorded remarks from academy historian Jennifer Voigtschild, inviting the audience to "literally uncover a piece of West Point history". Cadets were filmed offering their own predictions for what was inside the nearly 200-year-old lead box: an American flag, boots, or maybe a class ring. But instead, there was mud.
