There will always be a line that has to be drawn, I appreciate that. But I would much rather live with the odd howler than have to deal with VAR. Imagine being a Coventry fan at the game today - never experienced VAR before. You score a last minute winner to beat Man Utd to reach the FA Cup final - you check the lino - no flag - goal given. You celebrate like never before. 2 mins after the chaos dies down - you see the VAR check and its ruled out. How can you ever properly celebrate a goal again at a VAR game? Its taking away the fun. Scrap it. Please.
It is, VAR is black and white. If the decision was against United to keep Cov in the game would people be as upset?
While I agree, it just means the 'offside by inches' line moves from where it currently is to a different spot on their body.. Even though offside is a clear black and white decision, what might be more practical would be to allow the VAR ref to watch the replay in real time and if they can't determine what the call should be, then it sticks with the on-field decision.
We wont agree on this But if we lost a play off final to this goal id accept it Cause its ridiculous But my opinion wont have any bearing on var in the future
FA Cup rules could change to let minnows land away ties with giants Leading members of FA Council are keen to allow smaller teams to request a money-spinning venue switch after decision to scrap replays angered EFL clubs The FA will be urged by leading council members to allow some flexibility over the venue for FA Cup matches when minnows are drawn against big teams after its decision to scrap replays. It is understood that multiple members of the FA Council would support a change in the rules to allow a smaller club who are drawn at home against a Premier League giant to request playing the tie away, so that they benefit financially and provide fans with a memorable day out.
I was thinking about that as a possible answer but it deprives the fans of watching their team at their ground - another possible solution would be to allow the minnow to play at home and if they earn a draw after 90 minutes then the bigger club pays them / compensates them for the lost revenue of missing out on a huge pay day - seems like a fair compromise - they get the pay day and the other gets a game less
What options? Are they going to ask for the game to be replayed? Everyone gets done by poor decisions from time to time - get on with it
Re VAR... I get the lines on the pitch business... BUT.... what about the actual impact of the players foot passing the ball forward. How can they be sure they are in sync with the impact of the ball and the lines drawn... what im getting at, is that when youre talking mm's or a cm... then at what point does the impact of the ball coincide with the offside decision..
It isn't a "Clear and Obvious" mistake. VAR was supposed to get involved when it is "Clear and Obvious." Since it's introduction VAR has always overstepped that remit
At the very least, I'd lie to see the rule changed to be based only on the attacker's torso, no more checking on hands or feet being offside. Will also encourage tubby attackers to get into shape.
There is no such thing as an absolute measurement. In Science, error bars are used to express the uncertainty in any measurement. Never seen any uncertainty quoted for Hawkeye in cricket or Var in football, but they must exist. Some of the close decisions will fall into the error bar region of measurements but it's never admitted. No, the camera is always right?
So if that had been now Sunderland could have opted to switch to Luton? Or one of the other 12 PL clubs they have a larger stadium than? I know they wouldn’t it just shows what a funny thing this EFL minnows is. It is only 3 seasons ago that Sunderland, and Wednesday who have a bigger stadium than10 PL clubs were League 1 minnows.
Umpire's Call takes regard of uncertainty in cricket decision making. There's no similar mechanism in VAR and there should be. I mean, there should be if VAR is to stay. Preferably I'd still bin it.
So why bother with the traditional approach of first out the hat is at home at all then? Let's just seed the teams at the beginning of the competition and highest seeded team is at home when games are drawn regardless. Twatting about with venue based on the whim of club owners is a ****ing stupid idea. Yet another example of how football is been run for the benefit, convenience and profit of people who do not have the game's best interests at heart.
