I get it, we performed **** in the CL this year.
Considering the amount of instability and BS that our club has endured the last two seasons, and finishing in the humiliating position of 6th last year, I think getting back into the Top 4 and winning Europes top two trophies is a great accomplishment.
Its different for Utd, they have had the same manager for 26 years and a manager and board who seem to be on the same wavelength, hence why they are the only team to have bettered Chelsea's record of trophies in the last decade.

Think a few Utd fans are slating the achievement a little too much. Sure it's a bit embarrassing being the worst defending champions of the CL and ending up in the EL but once you're in the EL you might as well try and win. Utd didn't take the competition as seriously as they could/should have done and got deservedly knocked out but I'd have much rather gone for the trophy. Make the best of a bad situation and all that. Congrats on the win but try and do a bit better in the CL next time Chelsea

And how did that work out last year? :p
A football club, especially one of Utd's stature should take seriously every competition its in.

People forget the only reason that Europa League dipped in quality is because everyone and his dog is now invited into the Champions League.
It used to be only Champions, now its the 4 best teams in the league.
So dumping the CL group failures in to the competition I guess is UEFA's way of mitigating that somewhat and making sure that some CL class teams are still in the competition and ensuring it keeps its draw.

I still think a good way of improving the EL would be to grant its winners a CL place.
People say "Then no one could ever defend their EL cup". But I bet if you asked any team if they would prefer to defend their EL or have a place in next seasons CL, they would choose the latter.

Lets be honest. If I said to the Chelsea fans in August that they would finish this season with just the Europa League trophy I would of got quite a bit of abuse.

None of you would of even entertained the possibility you would go backwards in Europe.

Add to it the primary reason you took it seriously is because you were far from sure you would qualify for the Champions League via the league. Had you been in Uniteds position and certain of top 4 long ago then you would of treated the Europa League like most top English clubs do.

The Uefa cup pre 1992 was vastly superior to the modern day version. In many ways the Uefa cup was better than the European Cup.

It's a decent achievement, but it's only equivalent to Preston North End being the only club to have won every English division imo. I think most people would see it as less than Liverpool, Utd and Nottingham Forest's achievement's in Europe, and you didn't need it to be ahead of Villa, Arsenal, Spurs and the rest.

Now that really is a big achievement.

Only club ever to be champions of England, champions of Europe and champions of the World. And we did it all in the same year. Twice :)

We said the chavs did what they could do by winning the Europa - which in my opinion no top team in the premiership pays any serious attetion to, if they had other priorities. It is funny that a cup slated by their plastic fans a year ago as being worthless now becomes the greatest trophy ever and the winning of it to follow a CL title as a great achievement rather than an abject record failure...<whistle>

    hahaha

Wasn't it great fun to see Terry et al jumping and down for winning a minor trophy which they were forced to go for after they have been dumped out of the CL <whistle>

It is like being dumped by Scarlett Johanson and then a few days later showing off Subo as your next partner in retaliation...<laugh>

Ah yes...that is why I started this thread in the first place...it is funny how some thick chavs will get twisted over some minor trophy which no top team pays any attention to....Good luck defending it next season haha <whistle>
