again no answer, I am going to explain why I did what I did but first I want to know what you would have done and why, I say again to ban is easy, its judgement and reason that count, I'm interested in yours
If you read them comments by him - racial and personal abuse,boasting about killing someone etc etc are just not acceptable. Like i said he should have a long or permanent ban,and he has done this several times before
But he hasn't been allowed to get away with those comments. He received a ban for them. The mods have to try and manage a lot of different personalities. Some posters have more bad days than others. I think Syd himself has said on this thread that its last chance saloon. I'm not sure what purpose a longer ban in the meantime will serve. He'll either tow Syds line or he won't.
One thing I will say about the Sunderland board (even though it did get out of hand) at least people express opinions and disagree with each other not like the 'mutual masturbation' of the Newcastle board.
My take on this is that Syd knows a lot more about Billy that the rest of us don't. Maybe this board is a bit of a lifeline for Billy, as he has had a tough time and obviously suffered a great deal of trauma in the past that most of us can never begin to understand. So Syd has decided 2 days is enough, and while we may not agree, someone has to make the decisions and we all sign up to that when we join the forum.
Well I have read all the comments and your lack of an answer I would suggest shows how difficult it is, I will explain why I did what I did. First I'm not the mod on this board, I stopped doing that some time ago to stop this kind of criticism. I was at the game yesterday, came home to find the 2 threads that caused the problem, no mods were on line so I had to act. I closed both threads and banned Billy for 7 days, that was to give me time to think and take Billy out of it. I asked commo if he would act as mod again, he gave up and one reason was getting hit like this for trying to do a job nobody wants. Commo is a good mod and because of location can cover at times the other mods are off line. Billy is a long standing post but his remarks are indeed unacceptable, the ban, IMO, is not a punishment its a message to Billy to say no more, take a few days to think, it is more than enough time, then come back and learn from it. Billy I hope will come back after his thinking time and continue being a valued poster, if not he will be banned for good. Now thats why I did what I did, you may agree you may not but its a judgement I made and I say again, banning is easy.
I like this, I appreciate other people have served time for our country and they do not go on the way Billy does. Everybody is different though and different situations affect people in different ways, some people are mentally tougher then others. I personally think Billy should seek help as he obviously has still a lot of anger and pain inside of him after what he has been through and that's not an easy thing to say or for another man to admit. I know cos I was once like Billy...
I missed most of the thread in question at the time but have just gone back and read it and to be brutally honest it wasn't good. Billy has a lot of demons I think and as has been mentioned here already, he may benefit from some professional help. That's not a sign of weakness but one of strength imo and I for one hope he does just that and we don't need to know anything about it. I like Billy's crack on here and he can be very funny and perceptive at times and for that reason I do want him to continue to post on here but he has to remember that some of those words he used were of a very unwelcome nature. I think he knows he over stepped the mark and we don't need to drive that home to him. Seek help or someone to talk to Billy mate and welcome back when you come on.
The thing that got me was that the thread in question had been discussed already and Billy was involved in those discussions giving reasoned responses. When the other thread started and I saw some of Billy’s comments I first thought his account had been hacked! As it was so out of the blue to the fellow I often responded to and PM'd. The comments were unacceptable and I wouldn’t have taken kindly to if they were directed at me as I've seen first hand what things like this can lead to. I don't know the full story and think the likes of syd knows more regarding Billy so think it should be left to the mods to deal with it the way they see fit but an explanation should also be given so we can put this to bed.
