Isn't the point that Leicester won't have to sell? Of course players are usually in thrall to these evil creatures called agents, who are constantly agitating for the next big money move, so the club may not have a choice; greed has a habit of destroying relationships, particularly the relationship between a player and his parent club.

But the options for agents of Leicester players are currently a bit limited. "I can get you a career changing move to Man Utd/ Liverpool/Chelsea"
"Oh really? But they're all ****. And I wanna play Champions League. What else you got?"

...absolutely.... and really that is all I've been saying and indeed the purpose of the thread ... gone are the days when Leicester fans were resigned to the sale of any emerging talent... we can now play extreme hard-ball with any circling vultures... after all, not like we have to sell to finance a new stadium! ... :)

Mate, that's exactly why, as a Saints fan, I'd love Leicester to win the league (after we take 3 points off you on Saturday, of course). We've lost so many players to Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd in the last few seasons, and they've all said they want to further their careers and win things. It's a source of some satisfaction that most of them have won **** all, but if Leicester win the league this season than in future no players at clubs like Leicester, Saints, Stoke etc can claim that they are signing for Man Utd in order to win trophies. Cos if you can win the league, anybody can (and that's not an insult).

  5. The threat is to Leicester City's foreign players, I think, who have no real interest in the area. Perhaps not so much with the English players, who are unlikely to be poached by the European giants, or any of the other English top 4, this season. It's going to be if clubs like £ity, PSG, Real, Barca or Bayern come calling that heads will be turned, regardless of the needs or wishes of the club.

... interesting ... why do you think this is more likely in foreign players ... if history tells us anything it is that British players are just as (if not even more) likely,to engineer moves ... Sol Campbell, Gareth Bale, Michael Carrick, Adam Lallana, Raheem Sterling ...

  7. I don't think any of the bigger clubs will want your English players, that's why. Sure, teams like United, 'Pool, West Ham and Everton would love to get their hands on the likes of Vardy and Drinkwater, but none of them are quite big enough. Arsenal, possibly, as they can offer CL.

If players have the opportunity to play for Pep at City or Jose at United they will leave Leicester. More money and most likely more trophies and more CL football long term

  9. That's the point, of course.

It's all well and good for them to think, glibly, that their players will say, "Nah, I won't go to Chelsea, because they're not in the CL!" but the fact of the matter is that Chelsea have more chance of being in the CL, in any particular year, than do Leicester.

These players are not always as stupid as they appear, and they will know that the chances are high that Leicester will utterly bomb next season, having been dumped out early from the CL, and their dream in tatters. They will know that they may never get another opportunity to make the big time. I will be very surprised if players like Drinkwater, Kante and Mahrez stay at Leicester.

I'm not sure about Vardy. Given his age, I think it will take a big club to offer him a final massive pay-day season to lure him away.

... and no problem with that ... provided the asking price is met ... Kante and Mahrez both on 4 year deals ... start talking £50 m plus as an opener ... certainly won't be less in a mad market where a goalkeeper of Courtois standard is rumoured to have a £73 m asking price <laugh>

I think Leicester will hold on to Vardy due to his age and I don't see none of the top teams being that interested/ willing to pay what they would want.

I would be uttlerly amazed if Mahrez didn't leave though, regardless of whether you win the league or not.

  13. We've struggled to make top 4, in most years. I don't see that changing.

Yes, we've had a great season so far, and I am sure that we will keep this team together, build on it, and remain competitive for many more seasons, but no Spurs fan I know is under any illusion that the likes of Chelsea, 'Pool, United, and £ity will remain this weak for ever.

If Kante/Mahrez had bids from Barca/PSG/RM/Bayern, ive no doubt they'd still be off.

If they were interested in going to Chelsea or the Manchester club that doesn't finish in the CL, it could really put a dent in their credibility of ambition over money.

This is a temporary power shift that only effects the regular big english clubs bidding but won't stop regular european CL clubs bidding for our players.

Im not worried about this summer, it's the next summer when we don't have CL football that i'd worry about, but im sure the club are aware of this and have good scouting in place for when these players do go.

I wouldn't worry too much, if you're recruitment is good enough (and based on evidence so far I would suggest it is) then it shouldn't harm you too much, in fact you could even strengthen with the funds as well. Find yourself another of those 400k bargains.

Wow ... revelation ... HIAG is your mum / dad / both? ... have to say there are similarities in style ... the acronym board name ...the insistence that someone is 'wound-up' if you are getting your virtual ass kicked <laugh> ....but up until now I sort of suspected that the R stood for Rupert ... my bad <laugh>

  18. BambiFox, I note that you've kept a respective distance on the other thread. Wise choice. You've seen how I've been handing the rest of them their arses over the past few days, and you clearly know when not to try to back a losing position.

You are naive, yes, but you are not stupid.

Bambi is wound up because transfermarkt showed the embarrassing truth that Leicester
in recent times "sell" at effective BOGOF prices, or lose players due to the loan repo men
    calling to collect.

Now they have some players vaguely worth buying, his delusion is that Leicester don't
have to sell. Yeah, like Man Utd didn't have to sell CR7, the Poool Suarez etc etc.

    You're in nosebleed territory, Bambi.
Put the hankie on your nose, tilt your head backwards for a while, and it will soon pass.
