We are a better team by having Ameobi in the squad.

simple as that. He's better than many "squad" strikers in the premiership - plus he is loyal at a (relatively) low wage, never sulks when benched, and good on the training ground & dressing room (which is more important than many make out)

excellent hold-up play, excellent target man. he draws in defenders allowing other team mates into the game - that's where his ASSISTS come from. Much like Gutierrez - who is also a lot better than his stats would indicate.

he has a weird looking run that makes him look lazy, but he's not. for years he played through huge injuries and pain (to his overall healths detriment) when we had no other fit strikers. any player willing to put their body on the line continuously like he did deserves the respect of the fans.

if only he was onside a bit more he'd be deadly.

I think any Newcastle supporter worth their salt would agree on playing through injuries. Shola was never this bad when he was younger for laziness. Since he played through that hip injury he has never been the same. Injured regularly and never able to get a run of games to see him at his best. When he picked up that hip problem he had just showed signs of maturing as footballer and goalscorer. I just think we have never seen the best of him or ever will. Personally I think he is really lazy now but that may be more to do with protecting his body and holding a little back for himself. There is no doubt if we are to progress as a side we'll need better quality than Shola. But there are a few I'd see out the door before him now. Lover although again a credit to himself looks past it to me.
