Fair enough Spanish, I've forgotten about the Milne quote. Taken at face value, they seem to imply that a) both manager and owner will not 'spend big' and that b) McCarthy is happy with the squad. I understand the first point, in the sense that Evans gave Keane and Jewell plenty of cash to achieve promotion, and they squandered pretty much all of it. But I think what most Ipswich fans are hoping for is some level of investment. Not millions, but a couple of wise additions. The second point is, admittedly, worrying. I think I covered elsewhere that McCarthy isn't exactly going to damage morale, by saying he wants to sign loads of players. However, if he truly means this quote "actually I don’t think we can do better than the ones we’ve got", then we're in trouble. As I mentioned above, Foley and Thomas for Parr and Oar are technically replacements, and but they're not better players. I express doubt by taking these quotes at face value for two reasons. Firstly, there is an element of the 'nodding dog' here. How often have we heard from Milne, and the inept Clegg before him, that Evans will make money available to the manager before the season kicks off (to tempt those undecided on whether to get a season ticket) only to see nothing available. Remember 'Operation Premier League' a few years ago? Secondly, the quotes on here: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...swich-town-not-spending-big-in-january-window Most notably: "Unless you are going to spend £3.5m then that's something different, but we are not going to do that, so we will continue with our policy and see where we end up." Note, 'our policy'. Interesting to note that McCarthy claims Knudsen cost £325,000 in that interview.
People need to realise Mick like any other manager out there is always desperate to improve the squad. He'll be looking daily. " “Actually I don’t think we can do better than the ones we’ve got, unless we spend a whole chunk of money and blow the wage bill.” Again, Mick like him or love him will big up every single damn player and keep morale / effort up from all. He will always praise everything till the cows come home- * Tabb * Opposition * Players that had a crap game. Behind closed doors different things will happen. That said I am very keen for us to sign a bit of quality this window, or if not a loanee or possibly two in the next three weeks. If this squad doesn't get a new signing or two I'm not going to be massively confident of us making the top 6 I have to be honest. That said, we're only a point off. Bring on the Reading Tuesday, and I may feel a lot more upbeat come that evening. I'm just currently scratching my head. Wendy have brought in Hooper - him and Forrestieri looked a great partnership vs Reading and will only improve.
