I still think anyone who doesn't like the kit is a miserable git! It's quite obvious there are multiple reasons why we have gone so red...think Asia! If it benefits the club then that's great, fed up of the narrow minded few, if it benefits the saints I wouldn't care if the kits were pink and yellow stripes!!
It's quite obvious there are multiple reasons why premier league games should kick off at 2AM on a sunday morning... Think Asia. Sorry, but that argument is bullshit. **** the Chinese, we could play in a red shirt with yellow stars and a picture of hello kitty hugging chairman Mao as our club badge, the Chinese would still prefer Man Utd.
I wasn't offended, and unless there are any Chinese people reading this, then I don't think anyone was offended. But is it okay to hold racist opinions so long as no one from that race knows about it? No it is not. Grow the **** up.
What the hell has the time for games kicking off to do with it? You obviously know F ALL about the culture over in the asia/middle east and how they React and have different believes which is heavily interlinked with colour, red I believe is positive ( not sure the reasons) hence Cardiff's recent drastic change from blue to red! I am One of the fans who doesn't care to much in what we play in however if Cortese believes this is the right kit and feels it may help attract a stronger following over seas then I am not going to disagree! Such tossers on here I'm sure if it doesn't work then they will change back next season and you can all moan about that! Get a life!
To be fair, I think a lot of overseas supporters support Man U or other 'big' clubs because chances are they'll be the first club they see on TV rather than necessarily being glory supporters. Thus the main way for Southampton (or anyone else for that matter) is to be a club that is desirable for TV companies to show overseas. For that, I think, a club needs consistently challenge for the Champions League (or have a particularly good history). Of course, playing in overseas helps, so maybe consider playing in the Asia Trophy. I think the teams in that are those which finish in particular positions in the Premiership so I guess it would depend on where you finish maybe.
I remember for a few seasons during the late 90's the club gave the fans three options and allowed them to vote on it. Wouldn't mind seeing a return to that sort of thing personally. Then we would hopefully be able to justify any future designs as being the 'fans' choice' etc. Just an idea. Thoughts?
Oh your 100% right but I don't think I or anyone else think saints are going to take over the world! Cortese is shaping and moving the club forward one little bit at a time, I think the new kit is just a small piece of the puzzle and if it helps us overseas then great....if not then next year we change back! The Don has my 100% support, he doesn't know how to be wrong!
Didn't this idea fail because when several teams did it, rival teams would swamp votes for the stupidest looking option?
Come on guys.......can we temper this a bit please........differences of opinion is one thing but do we really need all this sniping. "You said this, no I didn't, Yes you did".......what the hell. You are all beginning to sound like a gaggle of old women.....Come on you can all do better for goodness sake!! Stick too opinions and put the sniping to bed!!
With all due respect to the above, I feel I should defend my opinion It's a logical continuation of your argument. I.e. if you change one thing to suit the tastes of people in east Asia, then why not change another thing for the same reason. I am well aware of the fact that Red is considered fortuitous in many East Asian cultures, but to say that we will gather fans in that region simply because of the colour of our kit is an argument with very little going for it. Firstly, it seems to rest on the assumption that people in these regions are so shallow as to simply chose a team to support based on the color of their shirts. Secondly, if we accept that assumption, then there are plenty of other clubs who also play in red, Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool, even Cardiff. Thirdly, Playing in non red kits doesn't seem to stop Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona from selling thousands, if not millions, of kits to the Asian market. Finally, and I can see myself getting accused of racism again, how many kits in China are real and not just some local knockoff that the club will get nothing from? Which brings me round to my rampant racism. I fail to see how anything I said was racist (offensive maybe, but everything is offensive to somebody). I would honestly like to know, because I like to think that I abhor racism in all its forms.
I remember that, I think it was several different designs in which we had a vote....good system I think you could have something.
Sorry mate have not been able to read all the posts just a few. judging by my inbox I have had to respond. All I want to happen is a line drawn under it all and to get this thread back on topic. I have seen some offensive posts but nothing outwardly racist.....although I have not read every post. Let us please get this post back on track or it will be lost.......
Actually, the majority of people do not "love" (or like) the kit as the polls prove. If you are under thirty then you will not remember the "exact" same kit Liverpool or Forest used to wear: THEREFORE IT IS NOT NEW. It's not a WOW, it's more WTF? As for moaning at the moaners, well frankly, I don't think we nor the silent majority care. Starting yet another thread just shows desperation by some to get on board with the new kit. it maybe disapproved by a majority but they (we) are resigned to it. After this initial dissent, we will all get behind the club. As some others mentioned, who cares? The team is first. Even them lot down the road had to put up with a pink away kit (sorry, "salmon") a few years back (was v. funny though). FFS - to me the kit is crap, recycled eighties. So what? That's the kit and that is it. It will be for the next 12 months. Us bemoaners are resigned to it. Please don't go too far with the obtuse, as: it is what happens on the pitch rather than what shirt they wear that defines "us". If you would rather wax lyrical about how great this kit is, then may I suggest you buy a retro Scouse kit or one from a rather good Forest side way back when. OR May I suggest we all move on. You may love it (fair enough) and I don't (who cares)..,that is just the way it is and let us not make an effing meal about people's differences about it. Oooo - that feels better ;-) Night night. #TooMuchRedWine (no white or striped white wine come to that!)
Wait just a minute!!!!! That pink away kit was bloody amazing. And to be fair, it was more maroon than pink. But seriously, I loved that kit and thought it was our best away kit since I've been a Portsmouth fan.
A lot of clubs have had pink away kits which looked quite nice: Barcelona, Espanyol, Deportivo, Getafe, Everton and Juventus off the top of my head. Palermo have a pink home kit which looks decent.
I am going to report Beddy to...Beddy for rampant sexism. No one argues about minor points like a group of men. I sometimes sit here and think how the hell did a discussion on tactics or socks get to all this personal crap. Old women have far too much sense.
You keep telling yourself that. Tbf, I think a pink kit could look good if done right (i.e. pale pink, not bubblegum pink), I always like the Everton kit that was black with pink pinstripes. Plus, if you get stick you can always just claim you've done it for breast cancer awareness...
