Obviously it is true of there was some bell end in R block having a go at Austin then that is unjustified. And the bloke is a cmploete idiot who know’s nothing about football. But to challenge SB’s point. There are times when moaning at players is justified and often it can be productive for the team. Barton 1st season with us for example. Terrible all year and then subbed against Liverpool at home when 2-0 down to lots of abuse. We won that game and Barton came back and had a sustained and regular run in the team. While last year for example we were too ‘supportive’ of the players, worried about offending there ego’s and they were artificially shielded from the abuse deserved for far too long. Had the players known far sooner we weren’t going to stand for the half-hearted displays then it could have shamed/scared them out of their lazy didn’t give a **** mentality. Most importantly of all, the terraces operate purely out of passion. To suggest that the fan in the stand should follow a robotic controlled model of supporter and only be allowed to ‘support’ and ‘cheer’ kills the raw atmosphere that can make Loftus Road special. At times this natural passion can be counter productive- Carroll getting a chorous of boo’s when coming off against Watford, didn’t sit well with me. A young player like that who is capable and is trying deserves more ‘support’ and to be protected from the negativity. But by contrast I honestly think that the abuse that Zamora and SWP have been given is actively helping the club. They aren’t going to improve, they have have more than enough chances to perform and consistenyl haven’t done it. Also managers and can get attached to players and go by reputation and become blinded to their poor performance. The abuse from the stands helps to make the position of SWP and Zamora untenable, they have had far too many chances and for whatever reason aren’t good enough. So if we can help make sure they don’t get on the pitch then we are helping the club by giving them abuse and getting the manager to take them off.
Good points Damage. Everybody has a right to shout what they want at whoever they want, I don't enjoy it but I'm not trying to stop it. I'll moan about players, but to the people around me more than anyone else. And perhaps it does sometimes have a positive impact, though I don't believe that there is any real collective or individual thought behind that. What struck me as interesting here was how upset we get when its aimed at Austin (who I totally agree deserves nothing but praise) but ignore it when its aimed at someone less popular. On Saturday there were half a dozen people within 20 yards of me at the top of the Loft on their feet yelling at Carroll just about every time he got the ball.
Grifter, these abbreviations are edging me closer and closer to the brink. They drive me F-ing mad. Who's he on about, Luigi De Canio?
I'll fess up....I couldnt work out who it was either............ Decided it was Tom Carrol......And thought the 'L' stood for 'Little'.......Right ???
Was it Tom Carrol? Well then Jack is royally taking the piss here. Not only is every damn player's name abbreviated, but now other words are added in at the beginning making it even more confusing. What do people think this Board is? F****ng Countdown or summat?
