Lyon defender Aly Cissokho is set for a medical at Newcastle United after the two clubs agreed a fee.The story, being reported by French website Foot01.com, states that Cissokho has been left out of the Lyon squad that travelled to Montpellier today and it is believed the player could seal his move to Tyneside as early as Monday. The official reason for Cissokho’s omission from the squad is a muscle pain but the full-back is available in the transfer window.Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas originally demanded €10m for the Cissokho but now a fee of €9m would be enough to sign the 24-year-old.

Copied off a website dont know how to get rid of the differing colours

Cissokho to #nufc reports jumping gun. No bid from UK club, source close to player says. Won't play tomorrow as injured-but still in France

€ 9 000 000 = £7 449 715.74 according to google. Seems implausibly high, considering he's not a striker or a centre-back, where we've said we're targeting.

this too. Having Santon and Simpson playing so well, with Raylor able to cover both means that it's not as important as getting a CB in (for which we have no cover), so i certainly dont see us spending so much on such a low priority

I have to say I agree with this. I can see us going for Cissokho in the summer though, especially if Simpson fails to sign his new contract.
The thing is though, if we got Cissy (for that is his nickname) in, we have Santon and Simmo to cover CB if we really need. This could therefore be an extremely roundabout way of getting some CB cover.

Aye, would much rather we signed a Centre Back in January. Would have liked a striker too. But, obviously that seems like a non starter. Although, I have faith in Best & Benny. Im actually excited to see how they play together. Would be nice for Ba to come back and have to fight for his place again

Bollocks I'm going to have a happy Saturday by convincing myself we're keeping everyone and adding Cissokho, Erdinc, Morrison, Martial and Mendy on Monday. That's all the key areas of left back, striker, right wing, centre half and Tiote cover sorted.

I knew it was too early to be drinking............................

for me CB then Hoilett (or other RM) then LB then striker (probably a bit controversial, but im fine with our options for now - of course the performances during the next gew games might change that)
