Fair play for finishing 10th and above us, but I don't think you understand where our mind set was as. Group of fans, anything above 17th is a plus for us. If we were offered Sunderland to finish in Europe at the start of the season ( which was possible) and Newcastle to run out derby winners and stop up, I don't think you would find many mags who wouldn't take it like. First season back up is the most important. It's done now. Game on next season like.
sombrero - wouldn't have it any other way mate, where would the fun be in that?!? well done again on your season, i'd be a bit gutted now too if i were you, but you know that if someone had offered you everything that's happened this season last august, you'd have snapped their hand off. that's three years we've finished above you now though...
No problem Sombrero. I couldn't believe you guys threw away a 3 goal lead, but I did have your match down for a 1-1 draw in the Argus Predictions because WBA have only lost once since Hodgeson took over. Forget todays match and think of the positives that have come out of your first season back in the PL. Overall the Mags have had a damn fine season and no, I'm not going to mention Halloween!
BSC ~ Honestly, I would have taken 17th gladly, as would any sane black and white. A couple of good signings for us both and we'll be mid table, no trouble. BTW, Bruce in, or out? Your camp seems to be split.
From what I can tell. Before today it was 50/50. Now I guess people will sway more towards keeping him and seeing what he manages to do in the transfer window.
Make all the excuses you want and go on about all the past glories you want, just surprised you haven't mentioned your attendances to cover up the fact that we finished above you. Nice to see some of you big enough to take it like a man unlike the rest of your cronies who skulked back under their rocks when the going got a bit rough see you in August lads and all the best.
Didn't go today....... Normally the last game of the season is special, so I'm gutted I didn't go. (Sometimes family matters come first). I've just spoken to a couple of the lads who went. Don't know if they were in Newcastle or oblivion. To throw away a three goal lead is unforgivable....... Still, there's always next year...... Reminds me of every end of season game. At the end of the match, there were always the comments, "That's it...... I'm not coming to watch this ****e next year". Next year, same spot on the terraces, same old faces.......... We're hardy folk!
Of course it's important, it is every season but your first season back up is THE most important. If you go down again straight away, you could fall in to the yoyo category and the financial implications are massive and would destroy what we have put in place this season on the money side of things. We would lose massive players in the process also. Stopping up this year was imperative. Next season is different. The expectation is different. I think the expectation will be very similar to that of Sunderland, where league position next season will be of greater importance in terms of rivalry than this season. Well thats my point of view anyway. So this is the most important season and it's a case of job done for me. next season will be tougher, but we have alot more quality than teams lime Birmingham and hull who have suffered in their 2nd seasons.
I think when you went down you were very fortunate, you got rid of the money grabbers owen etc, and kept the hard workers, nolan, barton, even collo, who remember you bought for 10 million, not many teams could have kept the players you did when you went down, so whe you came back up at the 1st time of asking, you already had a strong nucleus, i never even thought you would go down, I did think we were better (but then i would have to lol) but i did think you would be comfortable and not relegation canditates, as like i said you had that strong nucleus from when you went down. Looking back over the season though, its been funny. Our best result was probably the 5-1 loss after that we were great for about 10 games or so, and it realy gave us a platform/kick up the backside. Our worst result was probably the 0-3 Chelsea, it raised the bar just too high and we couldnt hope to better it or even come to 80% of that performance. So our best and worst results in the season, you can flip over and they they were the other way around, funny old game isnt it lol
Sure is. Was nice having a run in and not looking over your shoulder though. Big contrast to a few year ago when we were both in the ****. But as it happens, I think going down needed to happen to us like. Just dont want it to happen again haha.
jarra, going down has sorted your mob out, the players who are there now play for the shirt, you could see that in the derbies and in matches like the comeback against arsenal. how some of those players were on the pitch the day you went down at villa park i don't know, they're like totally different people sombrero, i'm ****ing split mate!! part of me thinks that, on reflection, we've had dire luck with injuries and ended up a win away from eighth, but another part worries that bruce led us to a huge winless run two years in a row now, and that if he gets another round of investment only to fall short (or fail short, as it were), the opportunity to establish ourselves as a force in the prem will be gone, and the best we can hope to do is be another pompey or bolton, decent for a few years only to fade. villa and liverpool will be much better next season i feel, everton as long as they have moyes will always be a decent side, and there are spurs and the current big four. not much to shout about hoping to get ninth every year is it?? my feeling with bruce is that i doubt he can make us a team that can battle with the big boys all season. maybe he can, but on his work so far i'm dubious, hence i wonder if a move for someone else will bridge that gap. who knows though eh?? before him we were one of those teams in the **** on a survival sunday, so it's perhaps ungracious to have too much of a go...
Something just doesn't smell quite right. What was that again, oh yer "He laughs best who laughs last.ââ¬Â
