I know you weren't having a dig. You were just implying false sentiment as usual. I said in the very post you were replying to I wanted Borini up top and I wasn't defending Jozy. Like I said, you were implying false sentiment on my part and you were wrong to do so.
I hate this singling out of players, it does my head in. Every season there is 1 or 2 players who get picked on. Now, I'm not saying Altidore is a good player, but I have no f**king idea why he is been singled out right now especially as has had a couple of allright games for us leading up to this. Its our midfield and defence who bottled it the most against arsenal. If you were just looking on the comments on here you would think Jozy personally lost us the game. no striker in our squad would have done well in the 1st half.
Better yet,.remember when people used to scream "Henderson ya ****e man ya soft ****' He turned into a terrible player when he left.
He has greatly benefited from the talent around him and is doubtless being groomed as Gerrard's successor and I see him in the WC squad. Jack may be thinking that it may be worth holding out for a bigger club to enquire before he signs a new contract. He holds the trump cards.
Sometimes players need singling out - OK so there are more to blame for the weekend but, over the season, 10 of the 11 that started at the weekend have regularly done a good job - Altidore hasn't. I really want him to prove us all wrong but my Dad has gone as far as to say that if he was playing on Sunday that he would gladly accept £250 for his ticket. He watched the entire 90 minutes on Saturday as well. When we were playing terrible under Reid in the latter stages, Kevin Phillips used to be as isolated as Altidore was on Saturday - yet he always got involved and did a far better job of that role than Altidore does and he never got singled out because he still got a few goals. Just IMO like!
Phillips didn't get stick that year because the fans had the Altidore scapegoat of the day Tore Andre Flo. Flo got 5 goals that year the almighty superman Kevin Phillips got 6. Yet the same fans who abuse Altidore now were abusing Flo then, "**** sake flop man ya ****". it was all Flo's fault just as its now all Jozy's fault. Some of our fans just love a scapegoat. We'd definitely be top 6 now if Altidore wasnt playing and Fletcher would have 15+ goals :-/ #AltidoresFault
Why on earth posters want to defend Altidore is something I cannot understand (it is like the climate change deniers refusing to accept facts)...he is imho like Graham he is hanging around the oppositions penalty area the most of all our players and he is not scoring goals. It is because of the signing of Graham, Altidore and the injuries to Fletcher that may bring about our relegation cos we are not scoring goals..football is simple. If we had Sturridge and Suarez we could score more goals than the opposition and win football games. We have forwards who cannot score (and why o why isn't Wickham afforded the same opportunities as Altidore is it the Short USA connection he has to play?). I do agree that Altidore alone is not the only problem, probably just the biggest!
I didn;t have a go at Flo or Phillips - and you miss my point completely - people didn;t have a go at phillips as he always looked to come deep for the ball - Altidore won;t do that - more likely to say "Can't someone else do it" when the gap is massive - And as for his almighty 6 goals - how would we be doing if Altidore had 6 goals? Certainly better than we are. He truly isn;t very good parker and I can;t see how you don;t see that - it's not making him a "scapegoat", simply pointing out a fact - as I said, on Saturday there were others to blame as well but at least those others have played well for most of the time Gus has been here (Bardsley, Colback, Alonso etc.) that is not something anyone can say about Altidore
I wouldn't start Altidore, personally. I'd like a bit of speed up front and Cest's team looks pretty good to me. We have to keep City on the back foot or it'll be all over by half time.
Altidore does come deep, in the first half on Saturday he dropped back into our half controlled the ball turned well and laid it of starting a counter attack in which we nearly scored from. Johnson's goal against Mags was made by Altidores dropping deep and clever flick. The difference was that he had someone running up and beyond to help. Johnsons second at Fulham, Altidore dropped deep lovely interplay with Ki who then played in Johnson. Common factor here, when he gets support he delivers. He played well against Norwich Stoke and Newcastle and we got 7 points. Bardlsey howler and Brown idiocy against Hull lost us the game yet fans spleens were vented at Altidore. Defensive shambles against Arsenal and here we are again. Blame somehow attributed to Altidore. That is the definition of a scapegoat. Im not saying he's great but the stick he gets is mindless and unwarranted.
Jozy fans will keep defending him. Up to them. Carry on like this, he may eventually come good.. Or he may have left for a bigger better team

you misunderstand the point. I am not claiming Jozy is a great or even good player. I just dont understand why his stock has dropped even further after the Arsenal game. He cannot be blamed for the arsenal defeat, he cannot be blamed for not doing well in the 1st half so why pick him out ? We had 20% possession in the 1st half, and you'd have to be a bloody special striker (top 4 striker material) to do anything with that. Super Kev was a special striker, so the comparison is unfair. Altidore will never make a top 4 team, SKP should have walked into one. I dont think you find any of the Altidore defenders claiming that Altidore could ever be as good as SKP There is absolutely no reason to single Jozy out after the Arsenal defeat. none whatsoever. As far as I can work out its another excuse for fans, who have already decided they dont like him, to have another go at him for no ****ing reason. As I said, I am not saying he is a good player, but he does not deserve to be singled in this way. I'd defend any other player the same way from this kind of individual abuse (unless they really were to blame for the result, then a few after match comments are to be expected but not the systematic abuse our yearly scapegoats get)
You're wasting your time fella. The Jozy haters think if you don't join them it means you Love Jozy. They're incapable of viewing individual matches on it own merit. If they did or understood the way we play, they'd see that the problems in that match stemmed from the defence. We play the ball out from the back for crying out loud And for the record I can think a lot of you lot are horrid vile little ****s towards him and not rate the lad at the same time.
Not all fans - I said he should've been taken off instead of Borini - mainly because, when you have 10 men, you need that bit of trickery to create - I said the same at the time - I never blamed him - I blamed only Bardsley - Brown missed the ball by less than a foot - he backed himself to get the ball and missed - no problem there as these things happen - we all have hindsight to make that decision - Brown only has foresight as to what he is trying to do and it was certainly not an intentional foul - just Long was quicker than him (no shock there!!) The fact that you remember every good bit of Jozy shows that he isn't doing it enough - I hope to god he proves me (and others) wrong but I simply can't see it. He's had more bad games than good games IMO - not making him the blame man but I can;t think of a striker less likely to score than him - OK so interlinking play is great - but surely you sign a centre forward to score goals. I also don;t blame him for Arsenal - a striker cannot be blamed for a defence conceding four goals - I just thought he looked awful in the game generally
