Well done but you've swapped a 6m player for one costing you 14m. You still don't have anyone able to get the ball to him, unless you're expecting him to do it all on his own??

Doubtfull. As bad as we know Jozy is. He's pure box office over there. worth millions on commercial revenue. He's Americas sweetheart as far as footy goes. Mental I know.

Jozy isn't worth 6m <laugh> Just because we signed him for that doesn't automatically mean he's retained his value. Straight swap for a player Toronto valued at 3m. That would value Jozy at 3 million wouldn't it? Not 6m. The potential value of the Defoe's contract is 14m, it will depend on trophies won and Europe ect(which ain't happening). It's emerged his basic is much lower(you really shouldn't continue to quote the sun when it's emerged they got their facts wrong as per).

How's the 10m striker you signed with the 5m minimum contract you give him? 3 goals and struggles to get a game? Hardly a position to judge our spending.

No outlay apart from a signing on fee, we could well bring in the player needed to help create. Giacc and Alvarez nearing fitness too. Technique players with an eye for a pass. I'm not worried fella.

I think he'll be alright but you'll soon know. If he's lost a yard or two of pace Defoe's ****ed. The rest of his game isnt up to much.

Well said, I fear you are wasting your time though. Like you say, Hernandez cost them more than Defoe cost us. Says it all really.

Ah yes - the infamous £14m! Which is actually nothing! We swapped a player which cost us £6m to sign plus nearly £4m in wages for Defoe who will cost us a signing on fee and his wages. That is not a £14m transfer!

Beg to differ, he's world class at pulling defenders out of position and he's a natural finisher too.

Post on here quite a bit mate. It's full of decent lads. But with it being a very busy board they've got so many posters completely devoid of logic.

You can't pick and choose which bits you want to include in your figures. The net liability to Sunderland is 3 1/2 years @ £80k pw less 2 1/2 years @ £40k pw. A shade under £9m. Not too shabby if he does the business.

Fair do's, you don't lose them two though. Bent(hope you don't mind me using him as an example) lost the two of the three things he had, Pace and Confidence. He was always going to struggle to get into goal scoring positions. You don't loose footballing intelligence and finishing. Defoe is much more intelligent than bent was, I think he can still get into goal scoring positions using his brain. The pace thing remains to be same but apparently his medical was very impressive so hoping he still has a bit of pace about him. But yeah, weather he still has the pace remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, he'll still be quicker than most or our snail pace squad. Slow isn't the word fella.

Read Funky's post man. The £80k a week is only with all add ons activated - so scoring goals, Euro qualification and the like - not a simple £80k a week. To return your own comment - You can;t pick and choose which bits you want to include in your figures.

Oh and Altidore has only been here 18 months - not 2 and a half years. You also miss off Jozy's value - which is potentially in the minus numbers in terms of goalscoring

But you're picking and choosing your numbers. Going off the Sun's initial estimate is incredibly naive. I struggle to believe most of what the papers say, you're lapping up information from the biggest liars in the newsagents. the Sun took the potential value of the contract and dived it to make a weekly wage, any monkey with a calculator can do that, doesn't make it true.<doh>

The pace in our squad is embarrassing fella. What I'd give for a bit Elmo's pace combined with Giaccherini's intelligence and technique.

What's the crack with Hernandez? In and out the team, 3 in his first 5 games then nowt. He looks to have a similar outlay to Defoe.

i think we’d all be happy if we’d signed defoe rather than you guys, pace or no pace. on the rare occasion we do create a chance there’s never anyone around to put it away. he could have been the man to do it? time for the team to show more desire, rather than just taking a wage. half of them don’t look overly bothered right now, which isn’t good to watch.

It's not rocket science to confirm what those quotes have confirmed about those two posters, however confirmation, as they say, is a wonderful thing.
