If you can get Defoe signed up and keep him fit then he will do the business. At the reported £80k a week its a lot of dosh; I would worried if we gave a 3.5 year contract to a 32 year old! The salary though is offset by the small fee if any involved.

It's also offset by shifting Dozy Outthedoor off the wage bill. If he's on 40k a week then it's essentially only 40k a week for Defoe.

If Defoe came here he'd be injured within a week, knowing our luck with injuries.

Why the hell Toronto want that donkey Altidore is beyond me.

They're all going home, Stoke have just confirmed that Maurice Edu has signed for Philadelphia Union.

Age isn't ideal but it's a good deal. Can't stick the lad but a few goals will most probably change my view. Great signing. The 80k pw will be bollocks too I reckon, we're on a structure.

Is it 3 years? He'll take a lower weekly wage for a 3 year contract.
Agree on his personality anarl cant stand him but if he hasnt lost his pace then he'll bang em in.
Who'll play up top with him?

That's a can of worms mate. Gus has no adaptability. Defoe will get murdered up front on his own against two cbs without anyone in the hole behind him. The system won't suit him I feel. Think he'll be played at inside forward when what's need is to play the lad up top and change the system. It will never happen though.

Oh, 3 1/2 year contract fella.

Defoe's most recent Premier League record is 1 goal in his last 19 games.

Seems like our type of strike rate.

I would have thought that salary would be reasonably accurate. Certainly given he had a fair amount of suitors, I'm still surprised, no staggered he has gone to Sunderland. I thought someone like Liverpool would come and take him. Particularly given their lack of options.

I think he is most likely on 80k a week as it's basically what he was on at Toronto. You will have accepted that wage as Altidore was on 40k a week so it's basically 3mill and 40k a week plus Altidore which is a perfectly acceptable deal for both clubs. Don't think of it as 80 think of it as an extra 40 a week for Defoe.
