ahh yes when you read it again it does say that. I think he would be stupid to not sign it. Sooner or later that team will gel even more and crack on just like usual and get that WCC.
Well, there was this http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/motorsport/2011/04/10/lewis-hamilton-offered-drive-for-us-for-life-offer-115875-23052001/
Hmm... ok. I don't know, maybe that's what he said. I missed that at the time. I wonder if "bestride this sport like a colossus" might not be a tad more Byron Young than Martin Whitmarsh, but perhaps I'm being overly cynical about tabloid journalism.
genjirrumatio, "bestride this sport like a colossus" doesn't sound like Whitmarsh at all, it just sounds ridiculous; nothing cynical about about it.
It's also here http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/notw/nol_sport/1265410/McLaren-to-offer-Lewis-Hamilton-a-seat-for-life.html You see, all the best papers!
Was there not something about Mclaren preparing to offer Button and Hamilton contracts until 2016 worth 100 million (combined).
My bad it was not until 2016 but 2017 (rumoured) http://www.planet-f1.com/driver/3213/6870698/McLaren-to-spend-100m-on-Button-and-Hamilton
I loved the line in the NotW: "Money is a long way down the pecking order for [Lewis] - he just wants to win." Yeah, nice try, Martin!
Cheers Mifune, and Max, for the links. I suppose we'll only know for sure when an announcement is made. I'm struggling to deal with such long-term commitments. If you're in with the in crowd I guess things look very rosy for you at the moment.
You're welcome. Like you, I thought such a commitment was surprising to say the least but suddenly it seems to be the way they're all going. Still, Lewis hasn't committed yet but I expect Simon Fuller to secure him at least a five album deal
While thinking about these new contacts, I reckon CVC/Bernie are going to get screwed over sooner than later by the big 4 teams, taking their star drivers with them to a break away series if they don't get what they want. I just got this feeling somethings going to happen and McLaren are just waiting for Lewis and Jenson to sign...
Every world champion is strangely signing a long term contract or about to with their teams, NOW! instead of waiting a few months towards the end of the season or the very start of it. Vettel's was only a month ago? Alonso now and the Brits are being sorted as we speak.... So I guess either Di Resta, Kobayashi or Kubica to be WDC next season then?
Yeah. If you take the McLaren drivers as a given, along with Alonso and Vettel, and jump to a conclusion - that being that the top four teams want to take the top eight drivers (most popular, audience pullers) with them - who would you put in the spare seats at Ferrari (alongside Alonso), Red Bull (alongside Vettel), and Mercedes (both seats)?
Well......It really could just be that Vettel and Newey signed first and in the end just gave the other big teams a good chance to get the better end of deal saying: "Well if you don't drive for us, how will you win the WDC?"
By that, do you mean who will be the other four top drivers come 2013? Well, I'd have to consider that one but my first thoughts are Rosberg but then I'm not even sure Button would be there, not sure either way, I mean. The others are still just promising, I think: Petrov and Kobayashi stand out; Perez is fancied but it's too soon to say for me. Still, that's eight if you include Button. It's a shame Kovalainen and Glock have been sidelined as they're both good in my book. So much for taking time to consider!
