That one quote should concern Rodgers , will he be given time ? 15 million is a lot of money but Joe is young , British and can develop further .We'd much rather keep him but if Rodgers wants him then he knows it'll come at a significant price ,our Chairman is no mug as shown to date , 3 very good signings so far and very promising manager who can attract decent players and we to date have taken approximately 7 million from your bank account ,to be honest I think we'll come out better from all these dealing than you will <whistle>

Seems a bit strange that we baulked at signing Sigurdson only to (potentially) spend twice as much on Allen but if we sign him good luck to the lad. Going to be a serious lack of height in the team though if we do shift AC on.

I hear what you're sainyg but I think it was more a matter of principle. He already had a deal in place with Sigurdsson who had agreed the wage structure etc only for him to demand more once Spurs came.

I think £15m is the total pacakge - I expect it to be £10m up front plus add ons. Well, that's what I'm hoping - £15m for Allen is a lot.

It'll be interesting cos if we play a team with spearing and allen and say oh i dunno suso in midfield we may as well rename skertl snow white and play sterling, sureaz and bellamy up front, and to complete the dwarven contingent we could put flanno rb....

Allen does put a shift in defensively.

Interestingly, I think with the right coaching that Henderson has the attributes to play a very similar game to Allen - keeping the ball moving.

agreed. henderson needs one poistion to play in and some serious coaching to bring out his attributes, good pass, good enginer, decent skills.

it'd be nice to "think" we could have a midfield 3 for next next 4 years out of lucas, shelvey, henderson and allen... nice to think but is it good enough... same question is asked year on year about manc younger players.... all in all whether they are good enough mostly lies with rodgers and how hard they work in each and every game.

true, i bet if we signed a "name" no-one would baulk at a fee even if it was double the players value... eg RVP for 20mil ;)

It's one thing spending money, but it's another spending money on players who are not worth it. £35m for Carroll, £20m for Downing and £16m Henderson.

If FSG are going to spend money, I rather they did it on better quality players.

FSG only provide the money, the manager spends it yet they get it in the neck when the **** hits the fan... well that seems to be the way of things recently... maybe that will change as BR isn't as untouchable as Kenny is

Sorry mate, I think I read your comment the wrong way. I agree, I actually like FSG - they make mistakes and I'm sure they will continue to make mistakes but they are learning from them.

In terms of the money we wasted last season, I blame Kenny and DC. FSG have provided funds contrary to what people want to believe.

alonso, reina, arbeloa, risse, hyppia.... the list of guys who we spent on but us fans would not have known thier quality is long. liek the man in the street test you can only go with your gut and that's why i provided a i'll trust the manager section as per muppetfinder's tirade at me.

if we spend a fortune on one player like carroll then the manager is always exposed. 35mil is aguero money. we spent it on an unproven player with an injury and lifestyle issues. guess what 18months later both manager and dof are gone.

the same could be said of cheyrou, doiouf and diao being bought by houllier and getting him the sack.

bozz is right an owners job is not what ambramovich gets up to (ie badly unbalancing his side with too many of one type of player on his own whims) but to appoint the right manager and then providing the required resources to meet the level of performance.

all that can be done is wait til aug 31, then see how much we spent, how much we took and and how much net improvement the squad has.

it july 20, theres 6 weeks to go in this window....

today we are 1 player in 2 players out and a net spend of about 10mil (depending on who you beleive)

    If we ended up

    a) with a net spend of 35mil and had allen, dempsey and borini then i think fans could either be happy as it was as projected net spend or annoyed with rodgers due to players chosen

    b) with next spend of about 10-15mil with Carroll also sold then we could be unhappy with the owners as their investment in players is non existent.

it'll be interesting to see what the next 6 weeks brings.

Not really liking this signing. We already have a great deal of Center-midfielders in the side and unless Charlie Adam and Aquilani leaves. Our best prospect for the future (in my opinion) Henderson will not be able to develop. As he wont get a single start; unless we of course filter out Gerrard this year which i can't see happening.

However this could mean Aquilani is on his way out; (es expected). I'd rather Adam left though. Either way that would justify the Allen signing i suppose....

Please note our only defensive midfielder is Lucas and we will have problems if we do not purpose another as back up. Forget Jay "I should play for West Brom" Spearing. I'm again frustrated we didnt buy down this route.. Both Barcelona and Spain have a defensive midfielder in any side they play on the field! Rest assured I hope Jay can prove me (a doubter) wrong his season.

Nonetheless if we do indeed purchase Allen i believe we are buying what we already have.
