i hate the kind of thing where british people know shedloads about foreign players who have never played for british teams. i make it a policy to not give a toss.

Why not contribute with your best British 11 then? Presumably with a core of British players you've never seen play either.

I try not to pick players before my time.

Buffon
Lahm Thuram Cannavaro Maldini
Zidane Makelele
Bergkamp Iniesta Messi
Ronaldo

The Ronaldo I refer to is the 'real' one from Brazil.

thank you for your suggestion; i'll mull it over, though there's a similar problem there. for most of my life most people never thought we'd get into the top division. i went to city games for years. the premier league was another country. one couldn't help but hear about players up there, but i despise those who are premier league fans rather than fans of some club. we all know they exist. city's first promotion to the premier league came after i stopped going and i've never yet been to a p.l. game. if i were to contribute a best british 11, it would be based more on the odds and ends i've seen on tv (when i was younger, you could count televised live matches on your fingers) and radio or read about. i wonder if it's generally typical that the names and players we learn about when growing up, as far probably as our teens, are seldom bettered by what we see later. it seems to apply with music too.

i like football, but i like a lot of other things, so football has never been an obsession. in the past, my reply when asked "do you like football?" has sometimes been "no, i like hull city."

You could always post up your best City 11 <cheers> I'm sure that'd open up a can of worms !

Great shout on Bergkamp. I agree the real Ronaldo was just...unreal.

Ruud Gullit would be in my XI. He was a monster in about four positions, for years on end.

A heavily attack oriented line-up. Will always win 6-3.

Higuita
Alberto....Moore....Beckenbauer....Maldini
Netzer......Messi...........Zidane...........Best
...............Finney.............Eusebio

subs:
Banks
Bremner
Giles
Maradonna
