....and how many times have you seen him "trying to cut it at this level"?

He played 17 times for us last season, I was at all but three of those games and I can't remember him being good in any of them(obviously most were sub appearances, but there's some starts in there too). I was also at Brentford for the Carling Cup game when he scored his solitary goal last season, but other than his goal, he did nothing in that game either.

I've occasionally seen him not cut it for the reserves either. :emoticon-0105-wink:

I'd spin that question to you, he was banging them in for fun in the youth team a couple of years ago, then did okay when moved into the reserves, he got a goal in the Premier League two years ago and since hasn't managed a league goal for us, Bradford, or Bury in 26 games, what makes you think he's going to come good?

He's 19 now, he'll be 20 at the end of this season and I think he'll be released.

there is obviously a player in there. he has a striker's attitude, ie fast, hungry and an arrogant little **** but with a little to learn, and at the beginning of this season (albeit in the pre-season agen sub standard opposition) he looked very sharp, probably still cheap in contract terms, he has a pedigree of goal scoring, which at any level is a hard one to acquire, and I think having been dogged by injury he has at least one more chance to prove himself before he is consigned to gateshead, blythe spartans or dare I say in a Nicky Featherstone-esque tone, Hereford. After that, I d gladly stand corrected!!

    Waghorn - 21
    Cullen -19.

Not much difference in age, yet Waghorn is an incredible player, big and strong quick and knows where the goal is. Cullen is small, twiggy and does nothing but stand offside. He's not good enough for the Championship, simples!

Although, I would like to give Devitt another chance at the club.

I think both players are unproven. Don't know how anyone can make a broad statement like Waghorn knows where the goal is when he has a record of 18 goals from 93 games.

Don't get me wrong I think Waghorn shows great promise but he is a long way away from the finished article, even at Championship level.

As for Cullen, I agree with Lambo. He just seems to be going backwards. He needs a season with a League one side. If he scores 20 goals there, we'll know we have a player if not then we move on, and he needs to be told this as well.

"....I would like to give Devitt another chance at the club....." and there any respect for your argument ends. Devitt is, at best upper 4th Division!

Cullen & Simpson were up front for us beginning of last season and neither scored any goals..

IMO Waggy is miles better, does more off the ball, is big and strong.. although I was impressed with Cullen's workrate.. the goal he scored in the PL was going in anyway..

I hope he comes good, he does need to start sooninsh though..

So you think Cullen is a championship player (or has the potential to be) but Devitt is a League 2 player with no potential?!?!?

Just a simple question. Why would we be replacing an injured player with another injured player?

devitt is proven at Division 4 level and also proven as a bad Division 2 player. fact. he excels for grimsby and bradford. he stinks for hull city!

many around where i sit both at home and away, are impressed with the fact that hull city have now made a contribution to the oxford english dictionary. some is no longer rubbish or bad, it is simply devitt!!!!

He's not fast. He looks like he should be but he isn't. He doesn't outpace defenders in reserve games. He's got some decent movement and he's a fair old finisher but his game is a long way off what we require. His link up play isn't very good, he doesn't get involved enough, he's not strong enough and he's not quick enough.

Honestly I really wanted to see Cullen make it, as with any youngster from the youth team, but it isn't going to happen as said he is struggling at the moment in the lower leagues and from watching him last season, Scunny at home in particular he didn't look like the player that impressed me in the late Prem matches.
On Devitt I like him, think he has a brilliant cross on him, although he is too lightweight for us and does lake pace. Although i wouldn't like to rule him out yet ;)

Yes all valid points but the team and club were and are on a better "on and off pitch" footing. Its good to keep an open mind on these things.

OLM makes reasoned arguments in general to support his point of view. Because I assume he is a grown up his status as a moderator has no bearing on how i respond to his posts. You simply restate what you said previously without developing your point. Then you resort to insulting other posters and claiming to be the font of all knowledge. Being 34 is nice and I am happy for you, perhaps acting it should be your next goal.

Check back at all my posts, think you'll find I do support my theories muppet !!!

Perhaps you'd like to elaborate a little more on your theories of me been old, childish and not supporting my points? Well?

I remember the days just after relegation thinking "We'll be fine. We have Cooper, Cairney and Cullen who'll form the spine of an amazing team. Bullard and Ash will destroy the division; McShane, Gardner and Zayette will find their safety zone, Dawson's lack of pace won't be such a problem; Ghilas will finally prove himself; Duke will be a good Championship keeper and Devitt will add some tricky wing play. Top six"

Just goes to show I know nothing about football.
