It's such a shame the racing thread has died and there is no longer a daily thread. I always found it to be informative and helpful hopefully it comes back at least for Cheltenham

Maybe everyone has their head in the form books ahead of Cheltenham Ginger

Apologies from me for starters. I have been so tied up (and still am) with urgent matters that I just haven't had the time (nor inclination) to even glance at the runners. Eg, for the first time in over 60 years, I forgot to watch the KG on Boxing Day. I'm not sure for how long this will continue but it would in deed be sad to see it die after 15 years

My only not606 activity these days is a football comp (to which I have been committed to running for many years) and Wordle which is a 5 minute relaxation

I see Attivo no longer starts the DT after religiously doing so for ages. Is that because of the lack of posts? I didn't see a reason

Until I am able to get back to it, would it be possible for someone to keep it going with a simple daily comp (eg nap and next best bets for the day - 2 poiints on the nap and one point on the next best). If not, maybe a Saturday one?

I have lost track of the big meetings these days but if there is one coming up, maybe someone could run a simple comp for that (if there is one before Cheltenham)

I thought most people were waiting for the NH season so it is a bit surprising that it has slackened off to this extent at this time of the year

Oh the political thread would be red hot at the moment.
Did enjoy reading the daily thread but I'm not a betting person so did not really participate.
In January I'm in marmalade making mode. Do at least 150 jars which are donated to the local hospice shop. Takes a bit of doing but the can make a few hundred £ by selling it. Can't stand orange/Seville orange marmalade myself

Yes , the decision to close the politics thread was a big mistake , yes it got robust but most were civil with one or two exceptions, but moderators were able to deal with that , in fact compared to the most other forums political sections , this was one of the best , with a good range of views , mostly articulated well and considered by others . That did lose some significant people , and then post Covid it has continued to fall , the tipping point was reached long ago , and it’s been on life support until the machines got turned off.
This is life though , nothing remains the same , and who knows , someone may resurrect it under a different circumstance …..

As you will know, I do not bother with the crooked slow old plodders during the winter months, so I did not notice until the other day that there was so little activity on the Horse Racing forum.

Perhaps more people are becoming disillusioned with the Sport of Kings as the impact of the Racing For Change nonsense this century has taken effect. I keep a record of my betting and in 2025 I made a (rare) loss of nearly 11% (too many NFL losers not just my four-legged friends) but my turnover was down more than 20% on the previous year because many of the big meetings were plagued by soft ground and it was notable how many poor fixtures there were at HQ with small fields and short prices. This year I will be looking to go on Betfair and start laying dodgy short priced favourites and make money out of the mugs that back them.

I go on the Knavesmire a couple of times a year with the camera as it is public ground and they cannot stop me; however, I virtually never pay to go racing these days because of the hassle I have at the gate. When I went to the races 30/40 years ago I could just contact the courses in advance and get permission (or even a photographer’s armband on a couple of occasions). Now half the courses want you to take out public liability insurance.

I am not sure that the demise of the Political Thread on this section of Not606 is entirely to blame. That was removed quite a long time ago. I post on the ‘British Politics spam thread’ (only survivor of several political threads) on the General Chat forum (seems to be a lot of Jocks on it); however, that is a bit of a joke (as the title implies) with almost none of the contributors actually type their opinions and it is largely just regurgitated stuff off X/Twitter. If I post anything longer than a text message the Leftie simpletons reply that they did not read it (too long for people with the attention span of a gnat); so I have started following the trend and regurgitating stuff too.
