    I have a feeling that Dick will be here for two years at least, its in his blood, and a if we navigate this season stress free, he may just fancy delaying his retirement for another 12 months.

    Fair enough. I would argue one season of Dick is better than a longer time with some substandard idiot I suppose. Just got to hope that you do well enough to bring in another of his ilk.

    At the minute I'm confident that we'll be better than last season but can't really see us breaking free of the bottom 5, 6, 7 teams. I have no doubt that Dick will have us organised at the back and functional and hard working in the middle of the park and I believe the rumours that suggest we're going to sign some players that will add a creative spark(the likes of Lens etc.). Unfortunately up front we're going to be heavily reliant on Defoe who turns 33 in October as the rest of them have proven over a significant period that they can't score consistently at this level, I can't be confident of breaking mid table and above until we have a few more quality options up front.

    I am 100% certain we will be less ****e than last term. Which is not saying much, but there it is.

    Sadly I think it is, players sign for money & clubs these days.

    I'd bet your latest signing was lined up before McClaren was appointed ..... I doubt he's the attraction tbh.

    I agree with your first paragraph. Perhaps I am crediting footballers with too much intelligence to look beyond what's directly in front of them. Alas a quick buck does seem to attract them.

    Time for my pre-season rose coloured glasses to come out...

    If the likes of Lens, Lomberts come in with a similar calibre CM (and perhaps striker), then 9th-13th is very possible and a should be a realistic target. I say this as:
    • we would no longer have to rely on one of Brown/O'Shea every game;
    • Vergini will not be anywhere near a park where we're playing football;
    • Brown would be our fourth choice CB (not second/third) - bless him for having a go at his age, but he's crocked;
    • we would have a real player on the left side with actual pace (yes, I know Wickham is supposedly a really fast 100m sprinter, but his explosion off the gun is awful for left sided purposes and his turning circle is more cumbersome than the Queen Mary II);
    • we could really see what Wickham has to offer up front (with Defoe tucking in just behind);
    • Seb would not have to start every game in CM.
    Of course, there are also the X-factors:
    • AJ's jail cell
    • Giacc's physio
    • Rodwell's heart
    • Inter's lawyers
    • Whether Fletcher, Wickham, Defoe and Graham can actually score goals - if we could ditch Fletch and replace, then I'd be a lot happier.

    I'm talking about Chester-Le-Street mate <laugh>

    Strangely enough though, I was born in Chester but never visited. I've heard it's a lovely place, bit like York?

    I know all this sounds a bit dramatic and 'avenging angel' shyte but that's how I am for my sins.

    I obviously hope he cops a long sentence so I have no need to pop round but who knows?

    Even if he just slams the door in my face, and I can't get in, he'll never know when I'll be back ... not nice for anyone tbh.
