It will keep coming up, taking valuable time that should be used to deal with more important issues .... to date you have 1 particular individual that has very little to do with politics in England, NI or Wales who for the past 6 months at at every PMQ's has used the same 4 bits of paper, with a few words maybe added or taken away and read from this script with same replies getting shorter and shorter ... today 10 words [ take away, my learned friend sue gray report and reread leaves 3 words ]. He never has anything to add even his second question is usually a version of the first. Mind you Starmer wastes 2 or 3 questions each week!.. on the same subject!

We need a PM who is up for the job in hand, has the enthusiasm do it, and change it but also needs an opposition, lacking in the past 2 parliaments that does not have self centred interest and politcal points gathering as his main [ dare I say only ] agenda.

Stepping aside from my own opinion for a moment I think RR is probably right.
People like myself who feel that lying to the country is unacceptable and should not be tolerated are in the minority.
Many Boris supporters are the grannies who see him as a loveable teddy bear who’s ****ups are just part of his bungling buffoonery attraction. Then you have the people who play the ‘it was just a party - there are more important things going on’ card - these people can’t or won’t see the bigger picture that it’s the lying and the hypocrisy that is on show here, not someone who simply had a beer in lockdown.
Of course then you have the people who are so afraid of Starmer that they would rather stick with the current incumbent.
I think in a General Election Boris would win - even now.

Is it the belief you are so concrete in your belief that he actually did that consumes you with that singular thought?

To be honest the first revelations about it I was very much going with the swing... the media hype and parliament pressure delivered with venom. A lot of tory MP's were as well I was looking at who best to root for to replace him. Well my whole life I have been pretty level headed, and principled ... hence always dont knee jerk and look at all the facts, the wider picture. It has slowly and purposefully been pursued on 2 levels and both have shown there was wrongs. It is a bit like the people that read SG report and only highlight Downing street political leader, and very convieniently pass over the "official downing street leader" as being responsible, why because they are only interested in tarring 1 person.. have no capability to broaden their horizon to include the person in charge of most of the goings on in Downing street. Boris lives there top floor flat the other 100++ or more that work there are under the stewardship of the official leader of Downing Street, and his departmental heads. Yes Boris is the .gov overall leader but not there 24/7 and relies on those that are delegated. I suspect people miss reading the fact that massive changes have been made to those I/C at the time, responsible for stating it is OK within the rules ..... !

I think Labour have, for the first time in a long time, a real chance of gaining power. Just as the Unions are flexing their muscles.
And then may the Lord help us.

    Train drivers are the first.
£59k annual salary not enough and, hard to believe, they retire aged 62 on a £40k pension.
    The poor souls.

    Over to you Keir.

It’s scary, as you said regardless of political viewpoint, that people consider it’s ok for a PM to allow the sort of behaviour went on, to then to lie about his knowledge of it.

Maggies permanent private secretary was on TV last night, she was appalled at the behaviour, and said Maggie would never had allowed it, partly because it would have been a reflection on her, Boris either doesn’t believe he did anything wrong, or won’t admit it if he does, both are equally worrying as it sets a precedent for future PM’s and ultimately the trust the public has is Parliament.

It is so so easy in hindsight to make comments that appertain to events that never happened and what she [ maggie] might have done. The event never happened back then, all around us didnt happen back then. To me it is now getting desperate, very very desperate for the media to fuel the fire of the events during covid. Next I suppose they will be looking at something Churchill wouldnt have done ... then scraping the bottom of the barrel ............. maybe something of a lie about 1066 will come to light

It’s not hindsight John, it didn’t happen because she wouldn’t allow it to happen, I don’t believe any previous PM has. Stating a fact about the past isn’t hindsight

how do you comment on something that never happened?
how do you comment on what someone might do or not
most events happened / were happening /started /going on before BJ knew [ where he was involved , even his birthday was a surprise! ] and a lot in areas where he didnt necessarily go or was in the complex at the time.
When you delegate, you have to have a belief in the person getting it right ... if they screw up, you are ultimately responsible for consequences, whether there, not there or more importantly being told event was within the rules

She could comment because she knew Maggie personally and knew her character. You are questioning her opinion based on no knowledge of either of them, doesn’t that seem a tad arrogant?

how can it be arrogant, come on you seem to believe anything that is put in front of you. Millions of people think they know what someone else would do, but that is not the point. You and her are second guessing what Maggie MIGHT HAVE DONE or NOT. Who is to say the reaction back then was to go into lockdown? indeed bad virus cases were treated by having a few days off getting over them ... pandemics were very very rare as travel and suchlike was sparse, as was the relative population.
And who knows had she "got a mystery pandemic illness" she would have survived.

Scraping the barrel is what it is about looking for scraps to keep the subject going..............
