Picked up from the Racing Post Website:

"Only the first eight finishers in Pertemps qualifiers will be eligible for the final at the 2014 Cheltenham Festival, it has been announced. Previously all those declared for a qualifier were eligible, regardless of whether they ran."

On the whole I think this is a good idea but will it put an end to Sir Barney's oft coined phrase "More plots than an Agatha Christie Novel"?

One of my favourite races of the year this as my regular readers will know. I absolutely love it and not just because I can continually use that ‘Agatha Christie’ line about it. Plots are a plenty in this heat and usually some right old scoundrels lay one out for this several months, if not up to a year, in advance. Mr Henderson, who always plays a ‘straight bat’, has never won the race but those old rogues, the Pipe’s, have won it on 3 occasions which tells you everything you need to know about the event!

Not really sure about the new rules will it really lead to a better field for the Final??? Like Stick says its quite easy to steer one into 8th, somewhat discreetly, and in doing so connections are still likely to get the desired reduction in the handicap.
