Considering Danny Graham was on £42k I tend to agree.

Yes if he had joint Senegalese/French nationality at the time he played at those levels.

Nobody is guaranteed first team football though. Paolo wants men with the right attitude. He clearly didn't fancy the competition hence his request to go to Turkey. I'm happy for players to leave if they don't have the drive and willing to better themselves and the club. I think he's choose the easy option so happy for him to go. What's wrong with that?

Yeah the Mrs' Dad works in finance and someone he works with financed his and Bardo's cars. Reckons Bardo is in the £30's aswell.

Just shows how much needed to change over the summer.

And yet all the pundits hate us for giving MON the axe. He wouldn't only have taken us down, he'd have bankrupted us as well.

I might not be popular for saying this but the Villa lads all came on here and warned us this was exactly what would happen under O'Neill. Dire, defensive football and paying way over the odds for dodgy players who would be put on huge wages. Seems in retrospect they were right. Still can't stand Villa mind, though I've got a feeling our season this year might end up a lot like theirs was last year, though hopefully with a bit of a better second half.

As for Alfie he asked to be guaranteed first team football and was told to improve and fight for his place. He was offered a loan and he took it when he could as easily have said OK, I'll get my head down and graft and show my worth, though given his wages I'm sure the club were quite happy to wave him off...

Nowt mate, but you didnt answer the question, what would you do to enhance your chances of fulfilling the dream of playing in a world cup?

It depends on the character of the individual player though doesn't it? Many would believe that playing regular football in a league like the premiership would improve their chances of making the world cup and improving themselves as a player. Many think like Alfie and move on for first team football in a poor league. I understand his reasons and fair play to that. But If every potential international thought like Alfie then players would be jumping ship for poor leagues left right and center. It's in the character init? He doesn't fit what Paolo wants in a player and I reckon he proved such when he asked to move on.

Still don't get why I'm being harsh. I merely share Paolo's vision. Just trying to say it how I see it by analysing the situation. I thought Alfie had bags of potential. He was adjusting nicely to the league and with a bit of improvement in his passing he would have featured on a regular basis imo. But he choose to move. If it was the "**** him" comment it was just a turn of phrase for not wanting players playing for us who don't want to be here.

In answer to your question, If I was under our set up, I'd only move if the club wanted to move me on.

I'd love it if he came back a much better player to command a better transfer fee or compete in the squad. But coaching wise, I can't see how he'll improve beyond his natural development over there which is a shame :(

Might be a very shrewd move in a world cup year

I'm with Bri on these sentiments. Paulo wants fighters. N'Diaye had a bit of a soft underbelly.....

Get rid - quickly - I saw an article with direct quotes from him (and posted it on here) where he stated that he wanted to leave due to more chance of first team football - so he ASKS to leave then says this?? Get shot - rotten apple IMO who looks like he's trying to rock the boat

There is a case to be made for a player that wants first team football.

There is a case to be made for a player that doesn't want to fight for his place.

Yep yep and yep! A player, when questioned by his manager and being told "You are not guaranteed first team football" should say "I'm going to give you no choice but to play me every week" not "Well a team in Turkey with an unspellable name will play me week in week out and I won't have much competition for a place so I'll go and play for them if that's OK?"

I actually think Paolo will have found out a lot about Alfie's character from this episode - maybe (and probably) he was hoping for a different response from him so to say he's miffed at why we let him go - he needs to read his own press before making such comments
