Whilst he's singing the praises of Alex Tettey, he also says that Hoolahan has a role to play in certain games - a wise man indeed.. My only concern is that if we do have a storming end to the season, how long will it be before a 'bigger' club is trying to poach him!!!

As the comments say, any doubters of AN's credential are quickly getting behind the 'Scottish Mitchell Brothers' and the team.

I am looking forward to our game against 1p5wich with relish and even if we should go behind, I fully expect the team to work even harder to ensure we do the double over them!!!

IMO - McNally may just have got another 'rabbit out of the hat!!' <cheers>
 
What really struck me about that was the specifics of how he explained it the formation, I'm not saying its rocket science but it is so rare for a manager to be that specific in analysis to the press.

This guy is going to be great for us. No bullshit generic phrasing of no interest, the guy is focused on what he wants, needs and where we are going.

Spot on carrabuh.

I'm more positive than at any time in the last 10 years, as not even PL fave us that sort of information. Also lets the players know why they may not be picked for certain games.
 
I think the fact Carrabuh is excited by this appointment, given he's arguably the hardest person to please on here, bodes very well indeed. As I said the other day, fans tend to follow in their managers lead, and if we all begin to have the same confidence our manager does, we'll be in store for some more good times. Alex Neil is certainly ticking all the boxes (apart from being Scottish, obviously ;))

I agree , apart from the Scottish bit they are proven to be better than our other British managers .
Just to give the Binners a quote , perhaps we have a New Sir Alex in our midst.<whistle>
 
There must be something about Scotland and Glasgow particularly as they have unarthed many managerial gems over the years. SAF of course but Matt Busby, Bill Shankly and dare I say it Paul Lambert (in his earlier days) and Alex Neil looks to be another off the same production line. It must be the hunger from relatively poor backgrounds and appreciation for the opportunity they have been given. You never get the same sense of determination from the average English manager or player for that matter.

They certainly chisel out some very strong characters in that part of the world. You have to be strong - you go under if you're not.

Today's offering from Paddy at Archant. Quite from AN - “When I first came in I saw a group who maybe lacked a bit of direction and confidence but the boys understand what I want now,” said Neil. “I always try to get a settled spine to my side and the Wolves win was the first time I had named an unchanged line up. I thought in terms of the shape and how we are trying to play you could see that and it will only improve more and more between now and the end of the season. “It’s been great so far. I'm really liking how AN is thinking and COULD we be the team that 'goes on the run to propel us towards the top of the league????' VERY early days still, but talking to others who were at the Wolves game, they all said that it was the best game they had seen us play in years!!

It is certainly very encouraging JR and as many others have stated on various threads, AN looks to know exactly what he is about and how to achieve it. That was the sad thing about NA in that his heart was in the right place but did not have the tactical nouse to implement his gameplans. I certainly don't fear tomorrow and think that being away may not be a disadvantage as Watford will be more inclined to come onto us and hopefully leave them a tad more vulnerable to a swift counter.

Watford seem to keep outscoring teams and have the quality to punish teams that go at them Kevin Keegan style so FRUSTRATING them would be essential, we have enough quality to nick a goal or two.
For the first time all season we have a settled back 4 and Seb has the finesse to drive from the back and put them on the back foot.
