I just don't understand how a van full of old clobber makes a worthwhile difference tbh. The cost of taking it there doesn't make any sense whatsoever, it would be better just to send that amount of money and stay in Manchester. A bloke out there who doesn't speak the language, or have any special skills, is just using accommodation, using fuel and eating food that might be better left to the local people. Of course I sympathise but I just don't get why it's worth risking your life, as a married man with kids, to transport a load of old tat.
He must have thought he was doing his bit to help some cause. How naïve can you be? It looks like he's going to pay with his life.
A few people have misconstrued my posts and it is my fault for being unclear. The point I was attempting to make badly was I do not like the blanket abuse aimed at all Muslims by some of the posters on here. The ignorance to not see people as individuals despite their religious background sickened me. I can only speak for the Muslims I have met and for the research that I have done. I am not religious, I do not believe I should base my life around books that were written with political motives thousands of years ago. If you think I am preaching that is not my objective, I just believe in human rights and I believe I have the right to discuss them. I fully support your choice to be religious however do not judge me because I am not. Like some have mentioned on here they were brought up in a religious family and chose not to follow that religion, the same applies for many Muslims. They have been born in England, through no choice of their own, and follow the traditions that have been instilled on them by their family. These people are English, and therefore they have been exposed to English culture and follow it too. Again I will re-iterate I am only speaking for the Muslims I know and there are obviously exceptions to every rule. It is difficult for many to be torn between the religious background in their family home and the freedom that is available to others of different religious backgrounds. Again it is not the person’s fault they were born in this country and they should have as many rights as you or I. Immigration is a different subject matter altogether, whether or not you agree with the current immigration policy is not important to my point, I wish that the people who are already in this country and are British Citizens should be treated fairly and without contempt regardless of their ethnic background. There are some very disillusioned people in this world who have been influenced by preachers who have no desire to fight the fight for themselves. My belief is that the confusion in the individuals head between the Western culture and the religious background in their home life helps them make these terrible decisions. It is not right and it needs to be addressed. I can only speak to the Muslim community I have encountered (which is quite a few for reasons I will not dwell on), and each and every one has never preached to me, never tried to convert me and never expressed any desire to bomb me. To state that the families should be sent to the warzone’s with the child if they choose to fight is offensive, if you have ever been to prison should your family be condemned too? There are many things in the Bible and Qur’an that can be construed in many different ways, Muslims interpret this in different ways as Christian’s do in the Bible. Hence why you get some Muslim’s with scarfs and some without. If the Qur’an states you must go and kill to spread your religion, there would have been not many people left in the world as people have been following Islam for centuries…. IS is Muslim’s fighting against one another, they are killing thousands of innocent people because of slight variances in their beliefs. It makes me sad and is one of the main reasons I do not abide religion, however like it or not, people are religious. My point finally is this, there are Muslims in this country, with British passports whether you like it or not. I hope that these people can be treated fairly and not discriminated against because of the religion they were born into. I for one will take no responsibility for the abhorrent crimes that Christian’s have committed for the past thousand years because I am from a Christian background, please do not expect the same for Muslims.

I agree with this, there is helping and there is putting yourself in a compromising position which not only puts your life in danger, but also others who may try and help you. I can totally understand trying to help but this is not the way, there are official ways of sending help to countires without putting some nappies in the back of your van.

You can have your own opinions, I have never disputed that. I offered my opinion and whether or not you chose to notice it is your choice. I presume you are an adult and therefore may be able to realise if someone offers an opinion it doesn't mean they are telling you what to think. I am not trying to tell you what to think, I am offering my point of view. What exactly is the point you are trying to make, how did me expressing my opinion wind you up so much?
