    Pathetic.

Why do we want or need this player ? Walcott is nothing special hype aside. Why are we spending so much money for these little English players ?? WE need big defenders FFS

    Wenger is an ARSE !

I'm starting to think Wenger has completely lost the plot! 12m for a player that was above average, NOT amazing in L1. Whether that be 7m upfront and the rest over whatever clauses I don't know but I can't help but think you guys are getting ripped off at the moment. Walcott had alot of talent at the same age and you guys splashed out for him and he's hardly provided anything special since, personally I think Wenger has destroyed everythin Walcott had and he will end up doin the same with Oxo

i have seen Chamberlain play alot last season as i live down in Southampton/Portsmouth area and he is one execptional talent. he knows when to have a run at defenders and when to pass the ball and move it on quickly. I was at St Mary's during the pre season game againt West Brom and was sat next to the dug out. There were atleast 5 scouts sat next to us watching and talking about him, the only way the Premier League defenders could stop him was by fouling him and after 44 minutes he got taken off with an ankle injury and getting sandwiched by two massive centre halves. He is british to the price is bound to be high, but once we have got him and he progress' our future attacking line up could be:
    -------Walcott-------
    Miyaichi-------Chamberlain
    ---Ramsey-----------
    ----------Wilshere---
    ---Song/Frimpong---

that line up has pace, power and vision.

You are very very lucky to get a player who will become a cult hero for you and an England regular. He may surprise you all......

My only worry about him is injuries. Not that he's particularly prone, but defenders will be hacking him all over the shop and he comes back for more instead of retiring into his shell. Quality player, very determined and intelligent off the ball too. Doesn't really dictate games though, bit of a luxury player.

I worry for the lad. Had he joined in almost any other season I imagine most here would be delighted (massively inflated price-tag aside). Sadly for him though he's joined when we're screaming out for experience and defensive players rather than more exciting youth prospects, especially wingers of whom we have fookin' hundreds! I don't doubt he's talented but in a season where we'll be scrutinised badly for our defensive frailties, not to mention our lack of silverware I think he'll get destroyed if he puts a foot wrong. Assuming he plays... which I can't see happening...

Same goes for Gervinho too really. Any other season and we'd all be pleased, this year it's all very muted. Arsenal fans are demanding results at the moment and seeing us chuff up a reported £7-10m on a winger when it could be put to better use is a kick in the nadgers and no mistake.

If I were a Saints fan I'd be delighted at the money they're receiving. I appreciate there are a few 'tards getting upset on their board but then every club has it's special followers. In an ideal world we'd sign our CB/LB, replace an unhappy Nasri with some class and buy AOC and loan him back to Saints for a season. Can't see it though.

PS. This is assuming it actually happens. Nowt is official yet.

This guy is usually quite a reliable source of info for us.

£12 million UP FRONT rising to £15 million according to Saints fan and PA reporter Simon Peach.

Incredible business from Saints if it is true

Sorry, but this is rubbish. I was at that game as well and sat behind the saints bench. There were no scouts in the area. Also Until that game I thought Chamberlain would easily have pissed on the championship, but Joe Mattock, West Brom's second choice left back had him in his pocket 75% of the time. Chamberlain didn't know what to do when he stood him up and ended up trying to do too much, losing possesion. He also completely bottled the challenge with Mattock, hence why he got injured.

We only know from League One with Alex compared to Championship with Bale/Walcott, but I'd probably say equal to Walcott, worse than Bale.

I know a lot of Southampton fans are saying he is not really that good, however I think from what I have seen of him that he could well be a star. I know it is a lot of money, however he is a much more well rounded player than Walcott, plus he can play in the centre.

He is an excellent player and handled correctly will be "the next big thing" however Wenger, Young English talent & Handled correctly doesn't seem to go together.
Potentially he is better than both Bale & Walcott in my opinion but that's based on seeing him tear the likes of Walsall & Plymouth apart, so who knows.

I'm happy with the deal though but you should have been looking at Lallana because he plays "the arsenal way" Oxo like Theo just blatantly dont.

Basically Wenger is a genius or an idiot. We will find out. 5 years ago I would have said he is a genius...

Either way. Good luck Alex. I hope you give my very underwhelmed Arsenal fan, flat mate, something to smile about.

found it, £12 M total was previous , but on £5 M was up front. i assume this is probably £12 M up front then, as someone has already said.
