Brilliant news once he is over his injuries he is such an asset, left footed centre half and rapid very hard to come by these, a back 3 of Luke, Ballard and aji, Hume and cirkin (again once over injuries) at full back is incredible at this level

Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce that Aji Alese has signed a new long-term contract at the Stadium of Light.

The defender’s previous deal was due to expire in June 2025 and he has recommitted his future to the Club until summer 2027.

Since moving to Wearside from West Ham United 20 months ago, Alese has made 27 appearances in red and white across all competitions.

The 23-year-old has endured a challenging 2023-24 season due to injury, but he is expected to make his comeback on Friday when the Club’s Under-21s host Leicester City.

Alese said: “I’m really pleased to sign a new contract at this Club. I’ve had some great experiences so far here and some which I can grow and improve from moving forward. From the moment I joined I felt the warmth of the supporters and I can’t wait to get back out there playing in front of them.”

Kristjaan Speakman added: “We are really pleased to extend Aji’s contract. He’s performed at a high level for us and demonstrated the potential to develop further, so we see him as an important member of our squad. It’s been a difficult 12 months for him due to injury, but his return to action is imminent and his personality has ensured that he has contributed to the group throughout his rehabilitation. We have high hopes for Aji and his ambition matches our own, so we are delighted to secure his long-term future.”

Nice. Now means that in the next two summers the only first team expiring contracts are Evans and Dack in 2024 and then Embleton and Huggins in 2025. Also Rigg but I have no idea on that situation.

With Rigg we can sign him up to his 1st pro contract on his 17th birthday in June. Until then, he can leave to join another club and we'd be due compensation. Hopefully he sees a pathway to 1st team football here and signs up. Effectively he could stay here for 5 years and still be an England u21 international. He absolutely has time on his side

If the club re-sign Dack then I'm done :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Cracking news this, the guy has really good potential and just needs a full preseason and im sure we will then see the best of him

Hes big strong and rapid, technically good as well so has all the makings of a very good CB (think this will be where he will play for us next yr)

Aye he wasn't trying before :emoticon-0112-wonde:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Yeah i know its no fault of his own obviously, same as Cirkin and Huggins, but its very frustrating constantly seeing them not included in match day squads due to one injury after another. I could say the same about Dack, but he's shyte and i dont care about him. Its more fool us for bringing him in in the first place with his previous injury record and Love island talk show life style
