I know that the majority of us on here enjoy a little libation 'from time to time' and this thread is to share views about our favourite tipples, so it only seems right that we provide a very important public service by sharing our experiences (good or bad) especially if we can offer any new revelations on the liquid refreshment front.

I'm a real ale drinker when I'm out, but I do enjoy a wine or two, red or white, and some spirits.

My favourites . . . .

Hobgoblin (ruby) if available, otherwise Guinness (when the former's 'off' in Alum House next to 'Sheels ferry)
I've always got some Guinness and Old Speckled Hen in the fridge

Mrs. A's favourite when we're out is Erdinger, a wheat beer (which was taken out of Alum House yesterday 'cos the supplier insisted on it being £6.30 a pint (which I was paying last Saturday)

Various wines, but I prefer Australian Chardonnay for white and Australian Merlot for red . . . . Yellow Tail or Wolfblass have been favourites for a lot of years for white and McGuigan Black Label for red, though '19 Crimes' can't be faulted for their range . . . . lovely stuff.

Whisky (with a couple of ice cubes) . . . . Glenfiddich is my favourite, though I do like Glenmorangie and Glenlivet (it seems like it needs to be Glen and a malt)

Rum (with a touch of blackcurrant) . . . . ordinary Lambs or my favourite, Mount Gay, now, which I discovered a few years ago in Barbados

Brandy (with a touch of lime) . . . . Remy Martin, either 'ordinary' the '1738' version, or XP

I've always got some of all of the above in, but I'm not an alcoholic

Now that I've given my Christmas list, what would be on yours ?

I'm mainly a real ale / craft ale or red wine drinker.

Real ale wise I tend to mix things up a bit, part of the appeal is trying whatever is on the menu for me. Reserve the darker beers for the winter months so will be shifting to those soon enough...coffee stouts are perfect for cold nights. Don't have a favourite as such but Shipyard IPA tends to be my session beer.

Red wines, usually a Cabernet Sauvignon. Can't do white, no matter how many variations I try I just don't like the taste.

Other than that I do have a selection of single malts also...need to stock up on a couple as I like the odd one again through the colder months.

I would refuse any lager 'cos that's a tart's drink, and it's (all) horrible anyway (I presume) . . . . I remember when it arrived in the U.K. women used to drink lager & lime when men drank McEwan's Scotch or Lorimers

The only 'non malt' whisky that I'd drink is Famous Grouse, so I'd refuse all of the rest

Our beer tastes are practically the same Gordon.
Enjoy a merlot, not fussed which country it's from, I'm not that precious.
Enjoy a glass of Bells of an evening, usually when I've got in from work around 11pm.
Got 3 bottles of Malt on the go, Arran, Tobermory and from my recent holiday on Skye a bottle of Torabhaig, the Islands ones are peatty and I enjoy them very slowly.

Can't drink like I used to but enjoy being sociable from time to time.

I like a hoppy lager - Camden Hells or Guinness Hop House 13 (which isn't sold here anymore)
Any NZ Marlborough Sav Blanc will do me in the wine section
partial to the occasional vodka and lemonade

Guinness on a match day which is the only time I go to the pub

Trying to cut right down as it's far to easy and habitual to open a bottle of something with our evening meal

My Grandad always drank McEwans Export. He ordered his customary Xmas crate of it just before he died. At his funeral, we (my cousins and uncles) all had a can "for Grandad" and to a man we all spat it out and wondered what the **** the old man had been drinking all these years. Absolute pigswill

Up until the last couple of years I've been a regular attendee at the Great British Beer Festival as one of my best mates runs a brewery and pub (which won CAMRA pub of the year a couple of years ago) so we go on 'research' trips. I haven't got a favourite style but tastes have shifted from the darker ales to hoppier, lighter styles recently. For anyone that doesn't appreciate them, like @Gordon Armstrong, a proper German or Czech lager or pilsener can be as good as any ale. Like anything else, the factory produced stuff is a poor imitation. I'm a big fan of Belgian beers too. One thing that few people seem to be into are the sour beers (there are a couple of German ones and some Belgian ones) which I think are really nice.

As far as Whisky goes, Highland Park is my favourite.

I lived in Malton in the 60’s when my drinking days began. Russell’s brewery had just closed down, taken over by Cameron’s brewery. Roses brewery carried on until they were taken over by Tetley. Roses best bitter was my first tipple (1/10d a pint) and cask ales are always my drink of choice. At home I drink malt whisky.
I remember the dark days of the 70’s and 80’s when the big breweries thought they could palm people off with fizzy gnat’s piss. Thankfully CAMRA won the day and Whitbread Big Head Trophy dishwatter was consigned to history.
My wife drinks white wine for England.

Anything starting with Glen, is perfect for me. Or JD neat, or with a splash of coke....Even the JD Apple, or Honey is a treat.

Lambs Rum neat, or with coke is my Christmas drink......I'll have to try your suggested blackcurrent mix.

I like a mix of the odd beer, but mostly drink lagers (Kronenberg 1664, aldi's version 1897 is ok as well) the odd ciders and guinness.
I sometimes buy a random selection of bottles, mostly beers and ciders just to try different ones. I find it helps keep the taste buds from becoming accustomed to one particular taste/flavour.
Kronenberg or Guinness would be my "go to" drinks though.
I used to love newcastle exhibition and mcewans scotch, though was never keen on the mcewans export or the 80shilling.
Never liked brown ale either, but could drink the old Double Maxim, though not keen on the stuff they brand as that now.

I can't abide any kind of wine, just haven't got a taste for it at all, same with most spirits.
The exception for spirits is whisky, I do like a nice single malt. Currently on the go is a Glenmorangie, Aberlour 12, Laphroaig and a Jura. Them 4 will last me donkeys though, at least two years I would say.
