I was looking for the pic/video clip but I didn’t have enough ime. Ive traced it to 7 games that he scored in and the piece of paper is at home. Will try and remember to look into it later
The caption says "Smith seen kissing the Newcastle badge for the final time back in February." It doesn't add or subtract anything to my overall point about Smith, just thought I'd post it up.
My reasoning is that I’m sure it was when he scored a goal so I’ve been trying to find but then other stuff got in the way. Like I say, will look into it when I can. He scored once in one the 2005 season and 6 times in the previous season I believe. Soooo whats with moderator status? Check you out stud
Thanks Buck for welcome. This thread does prove one thing though! How passionate we are for our team and how we want the best for club. wish i knew how to put smiley on LOL
I've emailed the webmaster of the unofficial Alan Smith website about whether the badge-kiss took place. I'll let you know what's said if she replies.
Am I the only one who doesn't really care whether he played for Man Utd or not? If he'd be a good addition to the squad, then we should sign him. I don't like Man Utd, and I loved being at OT to see us win, but if Smith ever came back to Leeds, I can't imagine ever getting that angry and start shouting abuse at him from the stands. He's a football player. Regardless of who you support, if the clubs you get the chance to join are Man Utd, Everton, Newcastle and Middlesborough, the best move for your career is without a doubt Man Utd. People have different opinions on the transfer fees and whether he actually had to join them to help us, but it was still a much better choice for him than going to some relegation battle at Boro. Plenty of players play for different clubs and kiss the badge and all that stuff. If he came back to Leeds, and helped us win promotion back to the Premier League, then it doesn't really matter who he played for. http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20090730/lorimer-the-facts-about-smith-move_2247585_1738586
He said it was the club he'd never join and he chose to go there. That is a betrayal. The Lorimer article is full of lies by the way, I rubbished it a few pages ago on this thread; Smith said scum was his preferred club well before Leeds made the final decision where he'd be going. I don't buy this 'footballer furthering his career' stuff either. Maybe it's true, but we don't have to agree with it as supporters. We're meant to be the ones who promote loyalty and avenge betrayal.
Maybe it's just because I didn't support Leeds when Smith was playing for us. Yeah, I get it and I'd probably feel differently if it happened today, but if he'd improve our team now then I'd be happy with him playing. I still think there are better players out there to get anyway. I'd prefer to see us sign someone younger without injury problems.
the only issue with getting someone younger though is that we have a young squad maybe barring a few in the defense and we need that experience in a squad mixed with younger talent, im not saying get alan smith or anything all though i wouldnt say it would be a bad move and there are a few conflicts there but we NEED a midfielder with experience that will break up play and just slow things down when we are getting overrun, thats what we missed massively season just gone, smith would provide this but hes not the only player out there and he's very injury prone and very expensive, i say at the moment the negatives way out the positives but if we do get him we can obviously afford him otherwise papa smurf would say no, he wouldnt break the bank for ANY player
Good piece here from the Sabotage Times, reckon this sums things up nicely... http://www.sabotagetimes.com/footba...st-his-best-and-has-no-place-at-leeds-united/
Well, I'll put my feelings on Alan Smith straight: Utterly bollox football player who spent most of the time arguing with the referee or getting booked/sent off. Limited ability and very little technical skill. Born in Leeds (so fecking what) and a hero to some, to others nothing more than a player. Went to Man Utd and did very little, went to Newcastle and has been equally as poor, this time he is older, more injury prone, lacks pace and doesn't get a game for their reserves. Wants a **** load of cash every week for playing his style of football and wants to stay in the EPL. A small section of the Leeds support would like to see him back for their own reasons, but the majority don't, so let us move on and support new players with skill, ability and belief.
After reading that BFB I am now leaning towards NOT wanting Smudge back. I think we should lead with our heads on this one and leave our hearts for non footballing matters!!
Some new developments, aparently newcastle are gonna pay 30,000 a week and smith take a 15,000 wage cut (dunno why newcastle would do this http://www.leedsunited-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/smith_boost_for_whites_684017/index.shtml?
If this is true! Then good, get grayson to make a statement and tell the little dick he aint welcome back! The Sun newspaper is a little behind the times with their "exclusive" yesterday saying Alan Smith's hopes of a dream return to Leeds have been handed a huge boost by Newcastle We covered that story TWO WEEKS ago. Smith, 30, has a year left on his Toon deal and old club Leeds cannot afford to pay him anywhere near his £60,000-a-week salary. But The Sun report that the Magpies are willing to put £30,000 a week towards his Elland Road wage next term, with Leeds stumping up a further £15,000 to coax Smith back to his hometown team. Newcastle's proposal means Smith would be dropping £15,000 a week to finish his career where it all began 14 years ago. But we can tell you the deal was offered to the player weeks ago and he is going NOWHERE for a drop in wages. Apparently he would rather not be involved for £60,000 a week ... rather than play for his hometown club on a regular basis for £45,000 per week. That's pride and passion for yer!
To be fair Monster, this is an opinion published on the Newcastleunited-mad fan site, not an official communication from NUFC or Smith. For the record I wouldn't want him back either (for footballing reasons) but we'll just have to wait until Leeds United FC tell us one way or another.
