Can someone please find a picutre of this alleged badge kissing? I can never recall it and he didnt score that many goals for them...... At the end fo the day he did what was best for his career which anyone else would do in there normal day to day job so for me.... GET OVER IT! Smithy can come back anyday for me!
The above is a complete lie. Here's a quote from Lorimer himself in 2004 before we sold Smith: Even if Old Trafford was the only place Smith could go, he wanted to go there before he even knew that. Here's a video of him confirming that it was the place he wanted to go: "Manchester United was the club I wanted to come to". Judas.
If you believe he was just furthering his career because he's a mercenary, then should you not still dislike him for making false televized promises to our fans about never leaving for there? Does that not count as a betrayal? Either you're a loyal player or you're a disloyal player, you shouldn't screw the fans over by pretending.
yes of course you woudl say that bearing in mind the S**M fans would wnat to here their new signing wanted to go their His agent ... the word agent explains everything!!!!!! if he comes and we get promoted....what then........ u will still call him Judas...i dont think so!!!!
Can you find em this televised promise about never leaving to there? No matter how loyal a player is you cant expect them to stay with you when you are in financial meltdown and getting relegated... He was a great prospect at the time and had his england career to play for, if he hadnt broke his leg he would still be outstanding now!
I take your point about the video (though actually Smith didn't have to say it at all, so I still claim it's true to some extent), but the quote is from Lorimer himself. Agents can be scumbags, but I don't see why any lies would be told to the club director; Smith's agent's job is to repeat where Smith wanted to go and that's what he did. I can think of literally no reason why he'd be dishonest in that situation. I probably will still refer to him as a Judas if he signs for us, that's what he is in my eyes. I'll still shout my head off at Elland Road in support of the team, but he personally wouldn't be getting any praise from me.
Certainly: http://youtu.be/60NNSwKxc0g?t=1m55s I never expected him to stay with us, but he chose to go to Man U, that's why it hurts. And like I've said, I'd rather see a new boy come in than some weary ex-player who'll split the fanbase into lovers and haters, we need unity and stability right now, not division.
When was this interview? i imagine it was a long time before he actually moved to them? Think he would be a great signing strong DM is just what we need! Everyone needs to know that there is no loyalty in football or very little!
I seem to remember it being on Soccer AM years ago, but then saying that a fair few pints of Tetley's have passed my lips since then killing off my grey matter... If he did come back I suppose I can dust off my Smith 17 shirts I threw in the bottom of the wardrobe in disgust.
The clip that Donald has put up is the I’ll never play for man u clip. There has been searches for the badge kissing though and im so sure I saw it. its annoying me now.
He shouldn't have screwed us over by pretending he was loyal then. And as a supporter, I still retain the right to hate a player if they're disloyal, the fact most of them are mercenaries doesn't mean my desire for loyalty to return is lessened in any way. Is that not what being a fan's all about?
I don't agree about the 'he supported Liverpool' thing. It doesn't mean anything. Loads of kids support different teams when they are growing up, I know plently of people who only started supporting Leeds when they were 15/16, and I myself supported a different team until I was 14. It shouldn't be counted against him. The Man Utd badge kiss is a rumour. As for him going to Man Utd, they payed the price that no other team was willing to pay. Other offers from Everton etc. were in installments and not the same price. Also he gave the club his signing on fee, which it'd be hard to find many players doing that today. As much as I hate Man Utd, he went there because it was the best move for his career. It was the only serious chance he could get at winning trophies. None of us would have played for them, but maybe if we were footballers it'd be different. It's not about whether he played for them anyway, it's about whether he can do a job for us. He was a massive player for Newcastle when they were promoted on 104 points. He's got the quality and if he takes the wage cut then sign him. If he helps us get promoted, he'd be forgiven.
I’ve heard all these arguments before and still it will never be the same. He is a not a hero, hes a disloyal little **** in my eyes. He wont come here anyway. Why would he take the risk really? And the wages just will not be up to scratch.
Smith is EXACTLY the type of player we need, regardless of his past history. Loiner,I understand your views but surely,if you had to choose :- A) sign Smith & gain promotion or B)don't sign him & finish 7th again, You would choose option A wouldn't you? Also ,while were on the subject of DM's,I'd also try & get Owen Hargreaves either on loan where manure pay all or part of his wages or on a pay as you play basis. Sorry, but as long as we get promotion I don't care how we do it or who plays for us.
Pags: well said YNBK: that Lazio goal was immense, I must admit! Essex: thing is, that's not the choice Simon Grayson's faced with and it's a pretty crazy and unrealistic hypothetical anyway. I think these discussions are going round in circles a bit now, don't want to prolong something we've already debated about, but I'd rather see a fresh young player come in who's committed to our long-term future. I've merged the three Smith threads we had anyway so it hopefully doesn't look like we're all too obsessed with the man!
