smith was brill for leeds---the worst 2 players i ever saw with a leeds shirt on was ---brolin---and donkey dean wat a tosser he was
I for one care about his lies and disloyalty in the past and I'm sure there are thousands like me who'd not be happy. Seems like an unnecessarily divisive signing when there are younger options like Cork and Gunarsson who don't have the scum baggage and huge wage demands. Smith'll end up at West Ham or Rangers by the look of things anyway.
Because he is useless in the Premier League and I've supported this club under Ashley long enough to know he'd take a million now rather than pay his wages for another year on the bench before getting nothing for him. Wouldnt be free either, there'd definitely be a fee of some kind.
I have thought long and hard about the return of AS and conclude if hes 100% fit and his parent club pay 90% of his wages then the advantages to KB IS AS FOLLOWS 1He would get a player 100% commited to get us results 2 probably sell a great deal more season tickets this will be going through Bates head right now how many more whats it worth to me how much will he cost at £6k a week 3 how many times will he get injured and sent off lots 4 When we factor all these things in KB will have a good idea if he wants Smith or not irrespective of what SG wants
It wont happen. Like woody and Bowyer, they're lights of former years. Move on everyone, you'll be wanting to resign Tomas brolin next
Bet it does Heres what grayson said january the 7th 2011 "He's a good player and forget any affinity he has with the club in the past," Grayson said. "If you get a player of Alan Smith's ability then obviously you would have to be interested. We are in the market to make us better. "We've been linked with many players. Smith, Woodgate, Kaka, Messi! Smith is a good player, Woodgate is a good player and we want good players at this club Now put batesys comments into that hat and suddenly you have a merry go round! Soon as smithy comes out and says he'd like to come back, then were pretty much game on. But as ive said in my previous posts! His time at elland right now would not be how we'd expect it! Savage would have been a better option
We all know there are two camps right now amongst Leeds supporters, an both are making statements about the possibility of a Smith return to Elland Road. As much as we talk about it, there is one fact we have to consider. The wages Smith can command, yes, even as a 31-year old, will be well above the cap in place at Leeds. This means that the only way Leeds will get Smudger is if he takes a wage cut. Is this likely? I really can't be sure he will do it. If he does, of course, then how can we hate him as his motive will be to help the club and not himself. So, if Smith takes the wage cut and comes to Leeds because he loves the club and wants to contribute to getting us to the Prem, will you welcome him? Or will you crucify him for joing Man Utd? Will you boo and hiss every time he gets the ball, and make him and the other lads feel uneasy and under pressure? Will you want to see him fail at Leeds, or will you rather have him succeed and help us to promotion?
He signed for the only club that would pay £££ upfront - for that i thank him He waived his signing on fee to help the club - for that i thank him He kissed their badge, nobody forced him - for that i can never ever forgive him. If he comes back fine...i wont boo him or hiss him, but i wont cheer him or shout his name, or even clap him.
He signed for Newcastle because he realised the errors of his ways. I'd prefer Lee Bowyer myself, he was still performing in the PL last season. Did Smith play last season?
Even if he does take a wage cut, I think he'll just be helping himself. He's already set for life with the £60k a week plus bonuses he's earnt at Man U and Newcastle, so it's hardly as if a wage cut now would be sacrificing his future for the sake of Leeds. If he came here, it would just be an appeal for forgiveness in my opinion, a final attempt to get the fans he utterly screwed over back onside. And I for one wouldn't pander to it. I can't say I'd go as far as booing or chanting about him being scum, but that's definitely the way I'd feel. I'd never sing his praises or applaud him during a game, he deserves no forgiveness in my eyes. You've got to remember that he was fishing for a move to Man U before any offers were even accepted by the club, the one club he publicly promised never to move to. He pretended to be loyal when in fact, he was beyond even being a mercenary, he was a traitor. If that's not a betrayal, I don't know what is. Generally, I'd rather we looked past players like Smith and the greedy Bowyer. Harking back to old glories has never been the way forward at Leeds; it's the reason we failed in the 80s and as soon as Wilkinson removed the smouldering ashes of the Revie days, it was a breath of fresh air. We should be looking to younger, more exciting players in those positions than the old battleaxes who could well divide the fanbase, especially if they aren't seen to be putting 100% in every single match.
I will support anyone who pulls on the famous white shirt, and it would be hard to not applaud the lad if he shows the same grit & commitment he showed on his first stint. Lets be honest if everyone dug in like smithy did the season we went down it would never have happened. Jud, the badge kissing one is a rumour I think. I have scanned the net & cant find a picture of it anywhere!
http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20090730/lorimer-the-facts-about-smith-move_2247585_1738586 Really good read. My main problem with Smith is his injury record. If this could be the man to take us back to the Prem should we be backing Grayson to go out & get him? Also the badge kissing rumour was prevoiusly discussed on the beebs old 606 but no evidence has ever been served up. I cant say I have seen him do it, but as a Leeds fan why would I be watching Smith play for them?
Ok...my POV I agree with Jud on the majority of the post.... I too have never seen the footage of him kissing that pile of ***T badge - until proven he is not quilty of that ...its a myth and i dont think he would have done that...(until proven) He leeds born and he stood on the kop im sure with some of us.... he scored some amazing goals...that liverpool one will always stick in my mind he gave 100% for the shirt ...boy i wish we would have seen that from more over the last 5 years!!! i would love smith back for one reason ..... we need him in the middle of the park..... the fans that call him a traitor need to read and understand the true facts of his move away from us we dont seem to call Mcqueen or Jordan traitors and they moved the same way...... Also we taken someof their players throughout the years Bowyer is a poor example ...yes he was good for us but he was a nasty little S**T and i think i would not want him back at all...no loyality and no class. lets see what happens but i will welcome him back!
He was originally a Liverpool fan up until about the age of 12-13? And I need to find that picture too cos I remember seeing him do it. That’s the thing. I love AS when I was younger and was devastated when he went to them. I grew up a bit and heard the reasons and this and that and yeah I can understand if you get me. But I remember seeing him running and kissing that badge. But I cant remember what match it was.
I also think that's a myth, I've searched for it before and nothing exists about it on the internet. He was actually a Liverpool fan when growing up. I've read everything about the move and Smith chose to leave for Man U. Said it was his first choice. I absolutely think they're traitors! I'm sure Man U see them as traitors in a similar vein. Even if you think Smith would improve us, do you not agree that: a) it is a complete betrayal to promise never to go to Man U and then, before you even know which offers have been made to the club, to say Man U is the only place you want to leave for? b) that we will never succeed by looking back to ex-players, an approach which dismally failed for us last time we were in the second division? And Que, I know it's been done a million times, but we've got to talk about something in the close season or we'll all go mad!
i understand some of your comments... he did suport Liverpool however we are all allowed one mistake as a kid... and he did stand on the kop cheering the team... I may be wrong but my undertsanding is that Manchester ......D where the only team to offer cash and we were desperate for that.... everyone else offered part payment in instalments and we could not afford to do that..... And why not take your cut if you did not care about the club you were leaving? But i love the debate and as Leeds fans its a good thing to bash around a bit!!
